New Hardware Was Detected by user27089 on 04-29-2005 at 07:17 AM

Well, whenever I start-up my computer, it keeps popping up that new hardware was detected, I try and install it, but it won't install, then it pops up again... Does anybody know how to stop this from happening?!

It's really really annoying, it isn't adware/spyware before any of you say it btw :dodgy:

Do you no what hardware its detected? (like the name).  You could try and look under device manger to see if any hardware says "No drivers installed".

RE: New Hardware Was Detected by Hank on 04-29-2005 at 08:54 AM

u can disable the Hardware by looking in Device manager, , what have you recently installed/uninstalled

RE: New Hardware Was Detected by squall_leonhart69r on 04-29-2005 at 11:45 AM

sounds like a cdrom drive not installing properly

this happens when you have improperly uninstalled and then installed new drivers for the IDE bus master

this causes an infinite loop installation as the cdrom drives reinstall themselves depending on which copy of the bus is installed first

this is also when you don't have the drivers installed or the files required to finish the install

to make this continuous finding and installing of new hardware stop

you need to find the hardware which is being detected and install the drivers necessary

typical drivers that do this are

Video IE Nvidia/ATI
Chipset SIS/VIA/NFORCE/INTEL
Sound Creative/Hercules/soundstorm/via/Realtek
Network D-link/Netcom/Realtek
many modems

and can also be devices connected via usb and ps2 controller ports

Look in Device Manager (right click My Computer, Hardware tab, Device Manager) for the "unkown" devices category which will list any hardware without drivers.

You can identify by looking at it which type of piece of hardware it is and then if you go in to it (right click, Properties) you can find out the vendor and device id which you can then google to find the company and product names - then you can find the drivers.

doesn't always work like that unfortunately chris

some devices don't actually get detected properly by windows and even if in the unknown devices list are hard to work out what they are

i would suggest using Everest Home to take a look at the Device list within it as it can actually see what the windows device list can't

either that or reinstalling all your drivers one by one, (with the latest sets available or course) and then seeing if you just didn't forget to install your network drivers or your sound cards game controller port

RE: New Hardware Was Detected by user27089 on 04-29-2005 at 03:31 PM

It's one of the ports... I'm going to do what Chris says, and if it works...  then thanks ;).

RE: New Hardware Was Detected by squall_leonhart69r on 04-29-2005 at 03:37 PM

if its one of the ports its most likely either game controller or usb/firewire as lpt printer ports have drivers built into windows along with com and mouse ports

some usb ports need drivers installed

what kind of chipset do you use?
Via
Sis
Nforce
Intel

No, it's fixed now, I didn't want anything installed, nothing was uninstalled, it was just that a port was detected that I didn't use... and the whole "Device Manager" thing worked fine for me :).

excellent

some times it doesn't thats all

for example

when i installed my uncles tv tuner it came up as a unknown device till i actually installed the drivers

BS. Windows does not give a damn what bus it's on, as long as it's not on a physically seperate IDE controller, it doesnt matter.

Uhh.... thats what surfi said, Look for unkown devices in there. If windows detects a device and doesnt have drivers it will ALWAYS show up as uknown device.
RE: New Hardware Was Detected by squall_leonhart69r on 04-29-2005 at 04:06 PM

yeah but some unknown devices actually have thier name showing, theyare just in unknown devices becoz the os can't decide where to put them

and wj. if i bother ever reinstalling the via ide miniport drivers i'll show you what i mean,

it causes the Secondary bus to install twice and you get two lots of the drives isntalled on the secondary bus

and everytime i restarted it would reinstall

good thing i don't use those stupid ide miniport drivers anymore

RE: New Hardware Was Detected by user27089 on 04-29-2005 at 04:07 PM

The unknown devices have a little yellow exclamation mark on the icon..

RE: New Hardware Was Detected by squall_leonhart69r on 04-29-2005 at 04:12 PM

so do devices that have names but can't be put in a category

such as an unknown Vga adapter

which is easily found to be my Nvidia graphics adapter when the drivers are installed

Thats not why they dont get put into a category, It's because the system has a min-driver to support the device to it's very basic functions but nothing further.

If your having any driver installed twice, It's not the system or drivers fault, It's an ID 10 T error.
RE: New Hardware Was Detected by squall_leonhart69r on 04-29-2005 at 04:37 PM

no. its not an id 10 error. id doesn't even give an error

and an id 10 t error is basically an error that can't be asscertained

what happened is both secondary ide channel drivers installed but then 2 sets of the same cd rom drive installed

and on each bootup it would reinstall the cdrom drive

was easily fixed by removing the mini port and then uinstalling the via hyperions

i then wiped all traces of via drivers from the registry by destroying anything named viahyperion :P

:| oddly though. my cd burner has alot of issues with running in dma mode. its a per driver thing it seems

it works fine in dma mode when i have the miniport driver installed and then i uninstall the mini port driver and reinstall the bus master ide drivers and it sticks to dma

i think my cables on its way out

:P,

Because they identify themselves to Windows i.e. Windows asks the device what it is, it says 'Uber-l33t Grafix Kard' or something, and Windows then goes 'Ah crap, don't have the drivers for you'.
Result: Device has name, but is either under Unknown Devices, and/or has exclamation mark.

:| thank you for reposting what i've posted several times....

Yes, and you can still get the device id and manufacturer information from the properties page as I said..

An id 10 t error is an idiot error by the way.
