Windows Activation by Chris4 on 04-30-2005 at 09:07 PM
Here's the story.
I've got a legal version of Windows..and a disk that came with my computer.
I recently reformated my computer. Everytime I go on my computer it says, pelase activate windows. I entered the key into the boxes and it says its not valid. I even phoned them up and entered it on the phone. Same thing happens.
I used it when I first got my computer.. does this mean I can't use it again?

Microsoft states:
If I reformat my hard disk, is reactivation required?
If the hard disk is reformatted and the software is reinstalled, reactivation will be required. The same grace periods for activation apply in this situation. Reactivation on the same PC can be completed as many times as required. The activation can be completed via telephone or Internet.
If your code is not working, contact Microsoft and explain your situation.

i suppose you reinstalled Windows from the original disk you have...
Did you change any hardware part of your computer? ie: you added more RAM, changed the processor, a video card, a new hard disk, etc... If that's the case, maybe your activation code doesn''t work... you should contact microsoft about it. You should try to reinstall it again, i think you did that recently, so you wouldn't lose too much data.

If you reinstall, you have to reactivate your windows... True..
You could've backed up your WPA database, but that's too late now..
Anyway you should give the a call:
Telephone:
1-800-MICROSOFT (1-800-642-7676)
Fax
Please include the recipient's first and last name.
1-425-93-MSFAX (1-425-936-7329)
There are also other ways to activate it, but I am not making them public, because that would be against a Microsoft Policy and the Forum's Rules.....
If you need it, try googling for it..
Good luck
