Did you get your pc authacticed on the microsoft website by any chance

RE: Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by emit on 05-07-2005 at 02:11 PM

when it starts the 60 second countdown do:
start -> run and type: "shutdown.exe -A" (no quotes) that'll stop the 60 second countdown and shutdown.
okay, it's either the sasser worm or ms blaster worm (if it is in fact a worm) - if on start up it mentions "LSA Shell (Export Version) then it is the sasser worm and you should get these:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxSasser.exe
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?F...8F3&displaylang=en
if not then it is msblaster and you should get:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.mspx
that patch.
and run:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe
to scan and remove the worm already present.

Time.

When dealing with virusses ALWAYS, I repeat, ALWAYS do the following:
1) Disable System Restore
2) Start Windows up in SAFE MODE
3) Download the latest virus definitions
4) Only after all this do a virus scan/clean (thus: in safe mode)

Windows Me and higer uses the system restore feature, which is enabled by default, to restore the files on your computer in case they become damaged. If a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back up the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer.

Windows prevents outside programs, including antivirus programs, from modifying System Restore. Therefore, antivirus programs or tools cannot remove threats in the System Restore folder. As a result, System Restore has the potential of restoring an infected file on your computer, even after you have cleaned the infected files from all the other locations!

Also, a virus scan may detect a threat in the System Restore folder even though you have removed the threat.

For instructions on how to turn off System Restore, read your Windows documentation, or one of the following articles:
Disable System Restore in Windows Me
Disable System Restore in Windows XP

For additional information, and an alternative to disabling Windows Me System Restore, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article: Antivirus Tools Cannot Clean Infected Files in the _Restore Folder (Article ID: Q263455).

Remember to NOT do a system restore if you have no idea how long your computer has been infected. It is quite possible that you re-inject the virus when you do a system restore afterwards. Thus, because of this simple fact, it is mandatory to disable System Restore prior to a virusscan.

Safe mode is the diagnostic mode of Windows. When you start the computer in Safe mode, only the specific components that are needed to run the operating system are loaded.

If you are running in safe mode you will see the words "Safe Mode" in all the corners of your desktop, only then you are certain you're running in safe mode.

You have several options for accessing safe mode. The most common method involves pressing the F5 or F8 key down as soon as you turn on the computer. Hold it there until you hear a beep, a startup menu (a list of the computer’s various startup options) appears on-screen, or safe mode loads.

You can press the F5 key to access safe mode directly in all Windows versions when you boot up.

If you prefer to access the safe mode via a startup menu, you need to press CTRL key in Windows 98. In Windows Me/2000/XP/Vista you need to press F8 when you boot up.

The method varies slightly if you have more than one OS installed on your PC. In that case, wait for the "OS Choices" Menu to appear, select which version of Windows you want to access by highlighting it and pressing ENTER. Then begin pressing the appropriate key (either F5, F8, or CTRL).

On a very personal note: after reading your requests on duplicating admin accounts, hiding them, creating them without being admin, asking on how to bypass PWD's, getting your mom's PWD, etc... and then after reading a thread like this, I think it was very wise of your mom to take away your admin rights and taking over the PC. If you need to mess with PC's do it on your own PC....
