I had this problem with my internet as well, but I just solved it. Turns out, my ethernet card wasn't fast enough :(. I hooked my modem up using USB and now it's lightning fast. Maybe you should try it :)

u mean 54mbps right?? and are u connected to another computer who connects you to the internet(lan), are u wireless or not?

I doubt he means 54Mbps.
As for the network card being too slow for a 5Mbps connection: rubbish. A typical network card can do 10Mbps, and most can do 100Mbps. More than enough for a 5Mbps connection.
The slow download speed may just be from that one server. How fast are downloads at other sites?

It actually resolved on it's own.  I had to reset the router and now it's fine.

What sort of download speed is normal with a 512kbps connection?

Does 50-65kb/s sound okay?

It depends on your ISP...

50-65kbps can be absolutely normal, but it also can be absolutely wrong...

We need to know your upload and download speed from your internet service to say if an average of 50-65kbps is normal or not...

In other words, if someone says he has an "x bps" connection, it means absolutely nothing without further information. What is x? download speed? upload speed? total upload/download speed? Is it his theoretical speed? Is it the average total speed? Is it a number he got from his ISP? Is it a number from some monitoring program? what?

To say which type of connection you have, you always need to tell 2 numbers: the upload AND download stream speed figures you got from your ISP..
