Tomorrow i'm going to clear out dust inside my computer with compressed air. RE: claening computer out inside by mwe99 on 05-16-2005 at 08:08 PM
Make sure all power is disconnected (obviously) and make sure no static electricity is around there otherwise the result would be shocking RE: cleaning computer out inside by .blade// on 05-16-2005 at 08:18 PM
Make sure you spray your compressed air away from the PC before using it on the PC to avoid condensation being disloged into the PC. RE: cleaning computer out inside by M73A on 05-16-2005 at 08:19 PM
i have some compressed air i use opn my keyboard... it sometimes sprays out some white, freezing liquid(i think its like liquid) that goes away when u breathe on it... RE: cleaning computer out inside by user35870 on 05-16-2005 at 09:01 PM
do you think it would be worth getting a pcworld to do it (a local computer shop)? quote: yeh mine does that to. RE: cleaning computer out inside by WDZ on 05-16-2005 at 09:02 PM
quote:I clean the dust out of my PC while it's running and I'm on the forums. quote:I think that happens when you tilt the can the wrong way... RE: cleaning computer out inside by user35870 on 05-16-2005 at 09:03 PM

Instead of going to a shop look for a tutorial RE: cleaning computer out inside by CookieRevised on 05-16-2005 at 09:08 PM
for the best use of compressed air: quote:* CookieRevised whistles .... I'll do it also, but I'm also smart enough to not touch anything while doing it (but for a very good cleanout you still need to touch, tilt, unscrew, etc.. so power must be off for that though) RE: cleaning computer out inside by user35870 on 05-16-2005 at 09:10 PM
thanks cookie for the info i will be very careful. RE: cleaning computer out inside by CookieRevised on 05-16-2005 at 09:12 PM
quote:depends on how clean the environment is the PC is in. (one of my PC's needs a very big cleaning every month because it is in a very dusty and smokey room and the case is always open) RE: cleaning computer out inside by user35870 on 05-16-2005 at 09:15 PM
well last time I was fitting my graphics card i noticed a lot of dust around the cpu fan and case fan but I didn't have any compressed air then. RE: cleaning computer out inside by WDZ on 05-16-2005 at 09:17 PM
quote:Yeah, it's just air, and I'm careful. quote:By what? quote:Yeah, I agree. What I do is put one hand near the PC and blow the air at my hand to see how much force there is. quote:My PC is about the same age, and I've cleaned it multiple times... there was lots of dust in there. I guess it depends on how dusty your house is and how much you use the PC (how much the fans are running). RE: cleaning computer out inside by mwe99 on 05-16-2005 at 09:20 PM
quote: Static Electricity so you should always touch something (like cookie advised) RE: cleaning computer out inside by lizard.boy on 05-16-2005 at 09:21 PM
quote: same quote: pretty sure it is. i know with mine if its upside down or shaken while spraying it expells something cold, liquidy, and flamable (heh.) RE: cleaning computer out inside by user35870 on 05-16-2005 at 09:21 PM thanks wdz and cookie i'm to scared to do it (millions of things could go wrong). I might just get the local computer shop to do it. RE: cleaning computer out inside by Plik on 05-16-2005 at 09:27 PM well as long as you follow cookies advice you will be fine, also if you pc has a metal case touching that should be enough to get rid of any static energy, just make sure your not doing it whilst dancing in a nylon jogging suit in a thunder storm RE: cleaning computer out inside by CookieRevised on 05-16-2005 at 09:29 PM
Indeed.... Don't be scared though. It is easy enough if you just practice a bit (on some other stuff), and like WDZ said, start from a distance and holding your hand near the PC and test how much force there is in the airflow. Not much can go wrong if you just use common sense quote:Obviously, he doesn't touch anything inside the PC when he's doing the cleaning while the PC is running.... (ofcourse, don't try this at home kids ) quote: RE: cleaning computer out inside by user35870 on 05-16-2005 at 09:30 PM thanks for the info. I will open it up tomorrow and try and clean it see the thing i'm scared of is booting up and getting a blank screen or sumin. RE: cleaning computer out inside by Concord Dawn on 05-17-2005 at 01:13 AM Erm, a vacuum/compressed air combo is the best way to go. Just run the vacuum near the PC a few times (a shop vac is good for this as their very powerful) to get rid of all the loose dust. Then get the compressed air and attach the little straw thing for precision blowing and blow away all the dust you see. Then get the vacuum again and suck away all the dust you loosened up. |
