RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 09:58 PM

blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk opens if you've tried, but unsucessfully installed the Handwriting plugin for Messenger.

On the page it has removal instructions which guide you through fixing the problem.

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:06 PM

well according to many other sites i have visited this is not just a faulty  file but something more serious (a hijacker) so i dont know that the hell it is!! can anyone help???

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:09 PM

well i know it isn't a hijacker, as that is my website and I know who created the Handwriting plugin.

As i said before, goto blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk and follow the instructions there...

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:12 PM

well i didnt do the things on the website - i removed all traces of the tool! does this mean its completely gone???

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:14 PM

do you still get the website open when you open MSN?

All you need to do is to disable the plugin in the Plus! Plugin preferences and then with MSN closed, delete MSNHandWriting.dll from the Plus! plugins folder, probally

code:
c:\program files\messenger plus! 3\plugins

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:16 PM

well i dont get the site trying to load up anymore!! and the file is deleted! does this mean its gone???

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:17 PM

yea, you already removed it.

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:20 PM

so why did it try to connect to the site? - im sorry but to me this did seem aful supicious. and a quote 'the f***er' cannot be detected by adware and virus removers, and that doesnt often happen by accident!'

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:24 PM

Below is from blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk

quote:
If your PC did not match this profile, you where redirected to this page. this is not malware/spyware/adware or whatever you call that crap, I did not use a MessageBox for a very simple reason: it would lock up your MSN Messenger login process, and you would no longer be able to log into msn!

Thats why it opened that site, rather than just show a message box or something as usual errors do.

who said that?  they proablly meant it isn't detected by adware and virus removers, because there's nothing to detect, it isn't a virus, spyware, adware or anything like that
RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:27 PM

well actualy simular comments have been made by many people eho simply didnt trust the site - surely with all the problems peps have with comps nowadays u can understand this! but what did it connect to the site to do??

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:30 PM

yea i know theres lots of forum posts all over the internet about the site being part of a virus or torjan or something.

It was just a way of informing the user that they hadn't insatlled part of the Handwriting plugin correctly and gave them instrcutions on either how to fix it so they wouldnt get the message anymore and they could use handwriting or to just remove it.
RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:35 PM

I have no reason to not believe you however can u prove that the programme is wat u say it is??
i have had many proplems b4 involving my internet and i try to be as careful and safe as possible thats why i want to find out as much as i can about this!!

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:40 PM

you can disassebble it if you want and look at the assembly code, it just enables the handwriting feature in Messenger.

I can only prove it is what I say it is by it doing what it says it does, which it does, I use it myself to add Handwriting to MSN 6.2.

[offtopic]I even confused myself with that last sentace lol, too many it and is[/offtopic]

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:42 PM

well i know peps who use a handwriting tool but of this is the same one how come the site loaded up for me and not them???

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:45 PM

Because you only see the site load if you missed a stage of the installation such as installing the ink files or have the wrong windows versions.

Also as far as I know this was the only way to enable handwriting other than infopen which wasnt free.

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:47 PM

i know that many peps downlaoded something else to get the handwriting to work but didnt use the carrot site. do u know wat it was and why??

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:48 PM

well it was downloaded from killercarrot, it was on many other sites, such as mess.be etc.

Infopen added some additonal drawing features, thats why they charged for it

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:49 PM

well this is a site i found:
http://www.kapook.com/cgi-bin/program/download.cg...name=InkRedist.zip
is this the thing killercarrot was trying to get??

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:51 PM

yes that is the ink redistributals that the handwriting needed to have insatlled to function correctly, otherwise it opened blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:53 PM

so why didnt the original download contain this file??

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:55 PM

it did.  But some people don't read readme files then they complain when something doesn't work

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 10:56 PM

sorry u lost me then

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Dempsey on 05-17-2005 at 10:58 PM

the original download included the ink redistributles but most people didnt read the instrcutions which said what to do with them so werent installed correctly and they end up seeing blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-17-2005 at 11:00 PM

so in other words the connection to killer carrot was there incase the file was not properly installed?? but why did it connect without asking u - u got to admit this may scare many internet uses??

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by RaceProUK on 05-17-2005 at 11:42 PM

How many installers open web browsers at the end of their run? Quite a few I believe.
The Plus installer does this, and you don't question the integrity of Plus. Yet you question this scenario. Why? What's so different about it?

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-18-2005 at 07:10 AM

The only reason a qusetioned it was because on numerous other website they state that the site id actual a hijacker! this is the only thing that caused dout in my mind!!

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by Chestah on 05-18-2005 at 07:17 AM

More then half the information on the internet is utterly incorrect - make sure you go to trusted sources first and even then there is a small chance the information you will find is incorrect.

I can confirm that Dempsey is infact telling you the truth :)

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by -rafy- on 05-18-2005 at 07:54 AM

As can I :)

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by WasP on 05-18-2005 at 10:39 AM

I never said that he was lying - i just wanted to become absolutly sure in my head why the hell killercarrot.co.uk was loading up!

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by RaceProUK on 05-18-2005 at 11:01 AM

Understandable. It's all too easy to get paranoid about PC stuff these days. That' why I think more ICT needs to be on the national curriculum. And none of this 'This is how to write a letter' crap: I'm talking about the real deal here. Internet, OSes, hardware, adware vs spyware vs viruses vs trojans vs worms, security, stuff like that. How the frigging things work! Without even the most basic info in how PCs work, how can you make your mind up about PC stuff properly?

RE: blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk by CookieRevised on 05-20-2005 at 12:40 AM

Here is the complete page which you should see....

It is NOTHING more then a big "message box"-type of text, explaining you did something wrong because you did not followed the clear instructions given in the setup of a perfectly harmless, non-adware, non-spyware, non-malicious plugin for MSN Messenger, despite what you may read on unofficial sites about this where people blame everything on spyware....

Those saying it is a trojan or what not, are simply and totally wrong. And proofs only that they don't know about what they are talking about (and also that they can't read clear instructions in the first place)... Sorry to sound so harsh, but it is how it is...

Also look at the URL itself. It is very clear with that alone what kind of page it is and why you get it: http://blasphemy.killercarrot.co.uk/error.php?a=InkRedist

The page itself from that URL:

quote:
MSN HandWriting Error

Hello, you where redirected to this page because you have the MSN HandWriting Plugin for Messenger Plus! installed, but forgot something!
Please read this before pulling any conclusions about spy- or adware.
For MSN HandWriting to function correctly, it will need two things:

1.The Ink Redistributables

2.Windows 2000/XP/2003 or higher.

If your PC did not match this profile, you where redirected to this page. this is not malware/spyware/adware or whatever you call that crap, I did not use a MessageBox for a very simple reason: it would lock up your MSN Messenger login process, and you would no longer be able to log into msn!
Now, the next step:

How to fix this

Yes, this is obviously what you where looking for, so here's a quick run-trough to see what went wrong:
- Are you sure you are running Windows 2000/XP/2003 ? if not, proceed to Removing MSN HandWriting
- Are you sure you installed the Ink Redistributables for "All Users"? if not, proceed either to Removing MSN HandWriting or Installing the Ink Redistributables
- if those two questions did not solve this page, then I would have no clue what the hell you did wrong, and you'd probably be best off by Removing MSN HandWriting

Installing the Ink Redistributables
The Ink Redistributables is a package for windows to enable the handwriting control needed by MSN to work with handwriting
You can obtain it in three ways:
First thing to try is to see if you can find your Windows 2000/XP/2003 CD, and try to install "Microsoft Journal Viewer", to my knowledge this includes the neccesary components for the MSN HandWriting plugin.
If that did not fix it, or you where unable to find the CD, you can download a seperate Ink Redistributables package from one of the mirrors below Please make sure you install for "All users" and not for "Just me"!:
- Mess.be (ink redists are included in this packge)
- Kaonet.net (ink redists are included in this packge)
- Messenger Plus! Plugins database (ink redists are included in this packge)
If installing the Ink Redistributables did not help, you should try to proceed to Removing MSN HandWriting

Removing MSN HandWriting
MSN HandWriting is a DLL that resides in your Messenger Plus! Plugins folder, usually located at:
C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 2\Plugins\
Before trying to remove the dll, make sure MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger are completely turned off, so also close them from your system tray.
After that, you should try to locate MSNHandWriting.dll in the above mentioned folder, and delete or rename it to something not ending in .dll
If you cannot find the dll, please make sure that system files are not hidden.
If Windows refuses to remove the dll, Please make sure with the task manager that neither of these processes is running: msnmsgr.exe, msmsgs.exe, msgplus.exe
If this did not yet fix your problem, you can try HandWriting DLL Uninstaller by Sk3tch...[*]

If these steps still did not solve your problem, you can try to find help at the Messenger Plus! Forums

[*] PS: instead of using the DLL Uninstaller from Sk3tch, use the Handwriting Uninstaller from Matty.
