Help With KSMAS, Please by Tasha on 05-17-2005 at 10:09 PM

Just to get this straight first, I do NOT want offers to host my KSMAS for me, because even though it is very kind to offer, I would prefer to host it myself.

Right, I have a problem with installing KSMAS. I ut the setup.php where it's meant to be, and CHMOD it too 777 (like a friend who runs it perfectly told me to do).

But when I go to /setup.php in Firefox on my server, I jsut get a blank page and blank source. :s Can anyone helop, or guide me through setting it up properly? Any help muchly appreciated. :)

I'm no professional, but maybe trying in Internet Explorer?
I was always successful when using KSMAS in IE.

It does since she is running a forum, remember? :P

Anyway, back on topic, I guess that you are using Norton Internet Security for a firewall.

Temporary disable it, and it should install perfectly.
I also had this problem, I disabled NIS, and I installed KSMAS :)

R u sure the installer is ok ?? U could wait about a month till KS releases CBC .....

Chmodding it to 777 should work ..... i think the installer aint rite

... just try downloading it from a different server this time and then

run the installer. And i dont think that u using FF has anything to do

with this cause IE and FF should be able to run the installer :)

Tasha, I'm out for lunch now, but you may pm me your MSN addy and I will try to help you with it (if there is any possible solution).

You may also want to join http://chameleon.keystorm.net/community (Chameleon Board Companion, frmly KSMAS, Community Forums, heh some more advertising isn't bad at all, right?).

I'll check in a hour or so.

why not use 755?  then group and public can exeucute it but not edit it.

Oh, god, again: as long as there isn't any anonymous account set up for your FTP account, setting to 777 is safe. It also ensures that PHP and other CGI's and executables can handle all files correctly (this is something KSMAS must be able to do once installed, so some things that are installed use to get chmodded to 777 (or 766) and if that can't be done by PHP, which usually runs as a different user than the owner, the folder must be chmodded manually or maybe some files chowned.

However, this usually gets messed up by Safe Mode anyway :p
