Licensing for Corporate Entities by techtracer on 05-25-2005 at 12:22 AM

My corporation would like to install this product because of the chat logging capabilities.  Unfortunately, no EULA of any kind can be located on the msgplus website for the core msgplus product.  Can anyone assist in find out exactly what the licensing is for the core product and if there are any different stipulations for Corporations wishing to distribute throughout their intranet?

Hello,

I can assist you with this.  As far as I am aware, as long as your corporation owns the computers, you are allowed to use Messenger Plus! as long as you abide by the EULA presented during setup (applies only if you install the sponsor).

i found this on the website, it might be of some help

Yes, you are allowed to send Messenger Plus! to your contacts as this software is entirely free. Messenger Plus! is a freeware, which means that you can redistribute it to whoever you want, as long as you redistribute the original setup package and not some of its files separately. If you want to promote the software on your web page, banners can be found here. If you want to include the software in a magazine or a public CD, you are also free to do so without asking for my permission.

^o)The Problem is that the EULA only applies to the sponsorware.  There is no EULA that I can find that clearly states that Corporations are exempt from any charges if they distribute the software w/ in their infrastructure w/o the sponsorware.  You know legal....  they need it in some unambiguous wording before they will sign off on it.

The Statement from our Legal Department
Even though this software is freeware, and we can install it without the sponsor, there still may be a license agreement to which we will be held.  Would you please contact the licensor and find out whether any license agreement applies?  I hunted around the website but they don't have a search engine and I couldn't locate any EULA.  Whether there is one does need to be confirmed, however.  Thanks.

Since I cannot contact Patchou directly, I'm hoping that he will reply directly here or send me a email directly - any help would be greatly appreciated as this product rocks!

You can email me at mplus@patchou.com if you need somethign more formal, however, don't worry, Messenger Plus! is free for everybody, companies included. If your lawyers want something written, just send me a letter to sign and I'll fax it back :).

PS: don't worry about the email, my spam filter deletes more than 1,200 spam emails everyday automatically :).

I have it installed on about 75% of school computers, and most of the teachers use it ;).  And they all know how to read and say "No" to the sponsor when presented with the option :P.
