This is a problem with your connection, try restarting msn messenger and connecting again, if not, then check your proxy settings.

no, just close msn (right click the logo in the systray, and press "exit"), then open it again.

http://www.msn-problems.com/solve-msn-messenger-p...gn-in-80072efd.php

quote:
  • First, check the .NET service status as this error may be caused by problems at the MSN servers.
  • If there are no reported problems on the MSN servers, see if your proxy settings are correct: click "Tools" and then "options" at your MSN Messenger main window. In the options screen click "Connection" in the list to the left. Next, click the "Advanced Settings..." button. If you do not use a proxy server, these textboxes should be empty.
If you are on a network the network administrator can probably tell you if you should have proxy settings in Messenger.

  • Make sure if Internet Explorer supports 128 bits encryption. Open Internet Explorer and click Help, then About Internet Explorer. If the Cipher Strength is less then 128 bits download and install the Internet Explorer High Encryption Pack. MSN Messenger needs encryption to authenticate (check your username / password)
  • In Internet Explorer: click Tools, then Internet Options, click Lan Settings in the connection Tab, click the "automatically detect settings" button, then click ok twice to confirm. This will let Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger find out the best way to connect to the Internet via the current network.

I also have this problem.

It started after I had run a perfectly good version of MSN 7.0 and finally got sick of Microsoft's messages telling me to update my msn every week so I installed Windows Live Messenger. Now, MSN doesn't work at all. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted and all that jazz. Web Msn works, and my accounts work on other computers. The only thing that has changed is that i downloaded WLM.

Further, the Windows troubleshooter told me it was probably a firewall problem, I'm not running a firewall... I have the XP firewall like everyone else, but that doesn't do anything. Again stressing that nothing else has changed other than the fact I went from a working MSN 7 to a non-functional WLM v8.0 :(

Suggestions?

Sorry, but have you tried to use the Soluftion of Conection Problems???
Another sugestion I can do is:
1) Try to search on the forum, maybe there is an old post about the problem
2) Try to find out on other forums and sites about the problem
3) Try to find out on the "oficial WLM help"
4) Contact microsoft or msn (you understand it) for more help...
;)
