Show me as.. by mwe99 on 06-05-2005 at 01:56 PM
Is there anything around that could show me as different status' to contacts? For example:
Contact 1 sees me as Away
Contact 2 sees me as Busy
etc
Thanks

This would be a nice feature but i dont think it is possible.
It's just like the cutsom names views by contacts thread
RE: Show me as.. by mwe99 on 06-05-2005 at 02:04 PM
I would have a go at creating myself but i dunno where to begin lol. I didn't know if it had been thought before and i had no idea what to search for

Well i emailed MSN as a future suggestion.
RE: Show me as.. by saralk on 06-05-2005 at 02:47 PM
it would get way to complicated, there would be so many different icons by each person, there would be one for their status, one for their display pic, one for their MSN Space update, and another one for the status they see you as.
And it would just suck, and be pointless, all the statuses apart from away basically mean "im unable to talk to you", so just set your status to online and block the people you don't want to talk to.
RE: Show me as.. by dudeman_27 on 06-06-2005 at 06:04 AM
yes it is possible. They would both need Plus! though..

well i would love to know if you could explain
RE: Show me as.. by dudeman_27 on 06-06-2005 at 06:07 AM
Well if you made a feature in plus that would let people send you certain information to their end and plus would set that contact to a certain status. though both would have to have this new version but i see it possible that way.
RE: Show me as.. by dudeman_27 on 06-06-2005 at 06:11 AM
lol dude I do. I know it's a very possible feature.
RE: Show me as.. by J.J on 06-06-2005 at 06:14 AM
I know itw not possible, but i like it, and i don't think it would be that confusing
A status next to the gleam could be the status you're appearing to your contact, and the status on their dp could the the status they are appearing to you
You could also have different images so it wouldn't be that bad

No it's cureently not possible to do it with Plus!, please only give information unless you know what you're talking about
RE: Show me as.. by dudeman_27 on 06-06-2005 at 06:15 AM
Here I'll break it down for you. You both have the same version of Plus! and in this feature it lets you send information that Plus! will read differently. When my Plus! sends you information that says set me to "Away" or "Busy" or something then your Plus! will set me on your contact list to whatever is specified..get it?
RE: Show me as.. by Stigmata on 06-06-2005 at 06:32 AM
Well this is not possible by protocol. When changing status, it does not send the information directly to the contact, it goes to the messenger server then to your contact. But in the case of changing status, it sends it to all your online contacts. This is what the packet looks like:
code: >>> CHG 13 NLN 0\r\n
<<< CHG 13 NLN 0\r\n
>>> = what is sent to the server
<<< = what is recieved by the server
13 = the transaction id
CHG = Status Change Identifyer
NLN = Online Status Identifyer
As you can see it is a global message, it does not define any contact specifically so again i say it would be impossible.
And can understand what you mean by sending information directly to plus, just as if custom sounds, and that would change the status by faking a packet, such as:
code: <<< NLN BSY you@passport.com This Is My FriendlyName 268435492\r\n
In theory, i guess it could work, the proxy method plus uses i guess could do it

Hello Michael,
Thank you for writing to MSN Messenger Technical Support.
My name is Jocelyn and I will be assisting you. Upon reading your e-mail, you want to know if it possible to appear in different status to your contacts.
Unfortunately, that feature, is not currently available with MSN Messenger. This is a good idea and will greatly improve our service. I’m including this in the list of feature request so that the Product Team can evaluate this for the next release.
Should you have another inquiry about MSN Messenger, please do not hesitate to write back and we will be glad to assist you.

or you could just use MSG commands to send msg's with custom headers and then modify the status in the msn contact list.

Must be possible, doesn't (excuse my language) Yahoo do it! maybe it's different for msn, but then yahoo's version is just a way of blocking anyways. so Saralk's idea is the right, just block'em. besides if you don't wanna talk to certain peeps, why they on your list???

No it is not, like said before... We're talking about the MSN network, not any other network; each network is different and has his own protocol, settings, possebilities, impossebilities, etc...
It isn't because a boat can float on water that a truck can, yet both are transport vehicles...
(lol, crappy analogy, but blah...)

Well.. Apparently the post was split and my post was apparently moved with that split.. so.. here I'll quote what I wrote.. and quote Mentality's "the end quote"... ...

lol well im sure we can all think of an instance where we needed that. like when im gaming i like to tell my friends im gaming but if my girlfriend is on then i dont want her to know because then she'll get mad im not talking to her. haha.
[offtopic]Throw the bitch out?? [/offtopic]

Well obviously you aren't listening. We have suggested a NEW idea that you don't change the protocol you use plus!, so far i haven't seen this presented anywhere before this. and i think its a great idea..
Then go ahead do the programming...

As Cookie said... You can't and you must NEVER compare to different IM's networks with eachother.. Therefor this conclusion can't be used for anything...
Ok.. Here we go...
Protocol: Impossible...
Plugin on one side: Impossible...
Plugin on both sides: Possible...
Positive: You can hide you real status for your girlfriend or some one else you don't want to show your real status for...
Negative/Downside: This is a HELL OF A JOB for a programmer to do... It is possible yes.. But no programmer on this planet would spend so much work on a plugin that would give you so litle output/result... It's just not wort the hard work... Also, how many people would want to download a plugin for you to be able to fake your status.. I certainly wouldn't... ...
It might be a job for TB or maybe MrHuge, since those two knows and has the Sock hooking source they need to do this... I don't think many other people around have this ready to go? Maybe on MSNFanatic I don't know... But well.. At least on this forum I think they are the only once that have the basic building block of this plugin... And I don't think you should count on them spending their time on something "this small"... Might be a feature in Stuffplug in some later(far in the future) version, if TB would do this... But besides that don't count on it.. Unless some one else more newcommer/n00b wants to do this.. If anybody wants to do this then you are welcome... ... You might ask in the forum for a litle ideas on where to go.. But don't come asking "How do I program" and stuff like that... A litle short/cut down history list of what you would need to do...
- Learn to program, VB, C++, VB.net, C++.net or anything similar programming language...
- Have a good understanding of programming, not just some n00b programming skillz but some more advanced skills...
- Learn to create a plugin, a very basic plugin, just get you set with the plus api and how it works...
- At least have some winsock/socket skills, and know what's going on...
- Make/or get some source(That you would be able to understand) on hooking the MSN Messenger Socket connection...
- Learn a bit about the protocol.. Maybe not just a litle bit, but a fair deal of it so you know what you are messing with...
The program/plugin would go something like this:
User 1 changes his personal status on and decides who will be able to see it...
The plugin then opens a conversation with all those different users(this open conversation will not be visible to the other users, unless they still use some sort of open conversation notifier).. It then sends a message to all the users checking if they have the plugin.. If they don't, then close the conversation again... If they do, send some kind of command to the plugin with the information on the status...
When user 2's plugin recieves this messages... Convert it to a message that the Messenger Client understands (Protocol), and send it to the client as if it was send from the server...
This way you would be able to have status Away for all contacts not using this plugin and status Online for those who has the plugin.. Or similiar.. This could properly also be combined togeter with MsgPlus! personal status's easily...
Hope this was explanation enough????
