Take a look at my desktop screen shot... its all filled with those purple lines... why is that happening also sometimes my computer fails to start correctly and displays the blue screen of death... I use WINXP... If you wana know anything else before you can help me kindly ask.

Never see that, try reinstalling your graphic adapter..

Try:
1. Windows Update
2. As said above, update your drivers (CD, driver website)

If you can't get it working, it simply may be broke and you need a new one.

Mine has white lines across half my monitor. But I forget about them. I think it's broken.

Do you have a TFT monitor?

I had this when my video card was frying....could be also from over clocking or w/e.

mmm it is kinda weird that we can see the lines.....you can try  the degauss function on your monitor(try it a few times if u have it) you can try taking it away for a few days, but yea its prolly your driver

Also check the cables into your monitor are all in properly and if none of the above helps, you could try replacing them.

have you tried changing your desktop picture too? simple but it might be that cos i dont think problems with the monitor would show up on print screen like veggie said

Are those lines random? (Show up different places?) If you Lock the PC (Windows Key + L) do they still show up?

When do they start showing? (during post, during boot, at logon blah blah)

Could the peple giving monitor related advice please not. A screenshot will show what gets sent to the monitor, and if the problem is at the monitor, it will not show in a screenshot, because the screenshot is taken before the information reaches the monitor.
