A whitepaper released today by Microsoft proposes a new, network encoding based, peer-to-peer technology in which each part of the file is encoded with information about other pieces. They say that this allows the reconstruction of the file being downloaded quicker and without slowdowns towards the end such as the case in torrents. They also say that it will allow the file to be downloaded 20-30% faster than of the, server encoded only BitTorrent type. Like Maniac said, it’s being made by Microsoft. It will for sure be monitored 100% and anyone who put illegal file on it will suffer the consequences. I think this is something Microsoft should stay away from since so many of there programs are pirated on other P2P networks.
