Update installation error by miss_mattingley on 06-20-2005 at 05:00 PM

I was promted to download the new version of Messenger Plus but everytime i go to download it, the download goes ok but it cannot install. Its says there's an error. I've tried to download the update using this method a few times but the same thing happens. Now when i reboot my computer an error message appears saying 'instalation error or setup error with a error code 000D'. I downloaded the newer version directly from your site and it worked fine however the error message still appears on start up and i want to get rid of it!! Any ideas?
Thanks x

All i found about 000D is that this is a Win95 driver, are you using Windows 95?

Things i found on this site :
Windows 95 is well know for it's: Recurring 'Fatal Exception 0E' errors occur when the PC boots up. Fatal exception errors are Windows 95's way of preventing programs or drivers from performing operations in the PC's processor that aren't allowed or will destroy data. The source of the problem could be a buggy driver or program, faulty memory, or a bug in Windows 95.

How to Determine a Device Driver's Source
1.The device driver name may suggest the name of the program that installed it. For example, CCVKD is the virtual keyboard device driver installed by Carbon Copy. Virtual devices often begin with the letter "V" and end in the letter "D." For example, VNAVD is the Norton Anti- Virus device driver.

If you are successful in identifying the source of the driver, remove the corresponding program.

2.The device driver name may begin with the letters "NW," suggesting that it may be a Novell NetWare networking driver. Other clues that may identify a driver as network-related are the presence of the letters "NDIS," "NET," or "SERVER."

3.If you are unable to identify the program or component that installed the driver, search the [386Enh] section of the System.ini file for a line with the following form

Device=<DeviceName>.386

where <DeviceName> is the name of the device driver, possibly with a path, or possibly with a slightly modified name. For example:

Device=ccvkd.386

4.If the driver that needs to be replaced is one of the Windows 95 standard drivers, run Windows 95 Setup again, and choose to verify the installation.

The following table lists virtual device drivers you may encounter.

Legend:

# - Indicates a standard Windows 95 driver.

! - Indicates a standard Windows 95 driver that may have been replaced by a third-party product.

$ - Indicates a driver provided by a third-party manufacturer.

3.0 - Indicates a driver from Windows 3.0.

3.1, 3.11 - Indicates device drivers that have been superseded by drivers in Windows 95

Not to totally nullify everything you jsut said Sunshine, it's good information, but aren't the newer versions of Plus! incompatable with 95? :P

Yeah, it most likely is incompatible..but there was no other info on 000D (not what i could find anyways, besides this and a Mac error), maybe you can give it a try?

Need sleep...nn.
RE: Update installation error by miss_mattingley on 06-21-2005 at 08:40 AM

Hi i'm not running windows 95 i've got XP with SP2?! I don't really understand where the setup file is on my computer or how i can delete it?

RE: Update installation error by Sunshine on 06-21-2005 at 10:57 AM

I advice you to do a regclean with TweakNow RegCleaner Standard. This program is free.

Also do ad/spyware scans with Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.06 and Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4. These programs are also free.

If you could take a screenshot of the errormessage and post it here it might help us a lil further.

RE: Update installation error by miss_mattingley on 06-22-2005 at 09:00 AM

Hi i already had spybot which i ran and it showed nothing unusual, just back web lite which i think is related to one of the applications i run. I downloaded the reg tweak thing and ran it. It idenitified a few safe to delete although there were 3 unknown paths all relating to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\clsid\{f83.... with values CamExl20.ax

I also run Norton System works, Anitvirus and Internet security 2005...not sure if that may have interferred, i thought i'd mention it anyway.

For some reason it won't let me post an attachment the page just loads to server not found??

I can probably e-mail to someone tho?

Are you sure the error comes from Messenger Plus? I ask this because I'm a bit confused about your description of the problem. And also because the title of the errorbox isn't the same as Messenger Plus! would use...

So maybe you can answer the individual paragraphs:

1) You said the error occurs when you install Messenger Plus!. You mean when you start the file "MsgPlus-354.exe"?

2) You also said the error occurs when you boot up in Windows. Now, Messenger Plus! doesn't set the entry "MsgPlus-354.exe" in any of your startup registry keys, thus this is somewhat puzzling. Unless the error also occurs when you start up the already installed Messenger Plus! "C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus!3\MsgPlus.exe"?

3) Give a full list of all your startup programs by downloading and using the program AutoRuns.
a) Download it
b) Run it and wait till it finishes searching
c) Choose the menu "File > Save As..."
d) Save the file and attach the file to your reply in this thread.
RE: Update installation error by miss_mattingley on 06-24-2005 at 08:01 AM

1. Ok the first sign of error occurred when the atuomatic uptdate for Messenger Plus was downloading i.e. the little box that prompts you to download the update when you're using messenger. I clicked download and the update downloaded something...it then told me it was installing however it didn't finish installing as it said there was an internal error or something. So i left the update for then and a few days later the prompt came back and i tried again but the same thing happenned.

2. Now the only error message i get now is when i reboot windows. As the desktop loads i get the error message i posted. I tried downloading direct from the site and the update worked fine but it didn't get rid of the error message. I'm quite sure it couldn't have been anything else as i don't think any other applications or programs were added or altered on my computer at that time.

3. I will attach the report from autoruns as soon as i can access the download. The page won't load at the moment
Thanks

RE: Update installation error by miss_mattingley on 06-25-2005 at 08:45 AM

Heres the autorun attachment you asked for...I hope its helps! Thanks

RE: Update installation error by CookieRevised on 06-25-2005 at 11:02 AM

The good new is that I can't see any psyware/adware... The bad news (depending on point of view) is that you have a massive load of startup programs, many which you don't need at all and only slow down the system.
eg:
- All the AOL spwyare detection "crap" isn't needed and you can well do with a more decent spyware scanner
- The pointer device program. Do you have a special kind of mouse/trackball/pen? if not, it could be possible that this program isn't needed at all. Furthermore, if it was a driver (and not some tool) it wouldn't be needed in the Run registry key, but it would be a DLL and listed with the other drivers.
- The Dell Quickset and Photo AIO programs. Again, are they absolutely needed?
- Then there is a "GoBack Install" application from Sonic Solutions (also from Dell). What is an setup doing in the "Run" registry key?
- The logitec video repair and tray programs. Again this is not needed. It only takes space and when you do need the applications you might just well start the proper program from the start menu.
-Then there is even a "Run" item which doesn't exist anymore on your harddrive: LDM, located in \Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe
- etc... etc...

The same goes for the StartUp Group:
- AOL 9.0 Tray. Why? if you need a connection or whatever, simply start the appropiate link from the start menu instead of always letting this run in the "background".
- Microsoft Office (OSA). This is certainly not needed at all and is the most wide spread "crap" that most people have in their startup group. The only benefit you have from running this is that Office starts up a tick faster (you wouldn't even notice it), otherwise it is completely useless.

I also see that you are running Windows Messenger constantly in the background. To fix this see "[post=201175]".

Now all this redundant stuff may/may not be the culprint of the problem. But fact is that you are almost certainly running stuff which you don't need at all.

There is so many stuff in your startup keys and groups that it would be very difficult to exactly pinpoint the problem.

What you can do is removing Messenger Plus! from both the "Run" keys[*] to see if that would solve the error (as in: it will not show again). (report back if it did or didn't please).
After that, and to make absolutely sure, manually start c:\program files\messengerplus! 3\msgplus.exe and see if the error pops up again. (again report back if it did or didn't please).

As I said before, the error message seems very dodgy to be an error message comming from Messenger Plus! though.

Did you try to install Messenger Plus! without the sponsor or with the sponsor?

Also, and last question, does Messenger Plus! seem to run properly (despite the error you got)?

[*]Remove "MessengerPlus3" from:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

RE: Update installation error by miss_mattingley on 06-27-2005 at 08:39 AM

Ok i'm gonna have a clean up of my computer, just a few questions tho so i don't break anything cause i'm not really sure what i'm doing on autorun! The section....
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
which has the aol spyware etc when you say i don't need certain items in there do i just uncheck them to disable them or am i deleting them?? I don't wanna go ahead and delete them or uncheck them without checking!

Oh and i meant to ask the same with the Messenger Plus...and i deleting it or unchecking it when you say remove?
RE: Update installation error by CookieRevised on 06-27-2005 at 09:17 AM

I mean delete. But first make absolutely sure you don't need those programs! Of some I know 500% for sure you don't need them (like the office osa.exe), but for others I'm only 99% sure as I don't know what you do on your computer or what programs you have running/require... Read the manuals of the programs of which you're going to delete the stuff, test it out first, etc...

Also make first a backup of that HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key and the other ones you're going to change (select the key and choose export in your registry editor)...

RE: Update installation error by miss_mattingley on 06-27-2005 at 10:25 AM

Ok firstly i removed messenger plus from both the run keys you told me too, i rebooted the computer and the error message still pops up. I looked for messenger plus 3 in my programs but its not there so i'm not sure how to run it?

as far as i can remember i installed it without the sponser

and yes Messenger Plus works fine its just an annoying error message that keeps popping up

Uninstall Messenger Plus! completely, reboot and see if the error still pops up...
RE: Update installation error by miss_mattingley on 07-03-2005 at 05:36 PM

Ok i removed it and the message is still there! does that mean its a different problem?

Oh yeah and when i sign in i keep getting a message popping up saying i've been banned...just thought i'd add that

indeed. As I suspected, this has got nothing to do with Messenger Plus! but with one of your other programs you're running (aka automatically starting at Windows bootup)...

And to fix this you need to seriously clean out your PC. If you don't know exactly how contact somebody who can do it for you.

on these forums you mean? In that case contact an admin.

I asked an admin to check it out (last time you told me about it on IRC), either way with AOL your IP changes every time you connect (also reason why a range of aol ips were/are banned, there were some abusers onhere not following forumrules). So if you can't access the forums try close your internetconnection (maybe even reboot) and connect again ;)
