EDIT2: ddunk, aha, I thought already it would be something like that, every old url of Keyhole points to Google... thanks for clarification... (hmmm I'm wondering if my old (payed for, but free for me ) KeyHole account still exists...) RE: Google Earth! by ddunk on 06-29-2005 at 10:34 AM

This whole thing is nothing new at all, silly Google RE: Google Earth! by Garndell on 06-29-2005 at 11:13 AM Keyhole used to show my house clearly, Earth Viewer doesn't, you can see the area, just not the house anymore. Yeah it highly depends on the location you search for. The USA is of course the most tracked and detailed so are important places and buildings. RE: Google Earth! by paperless on 06-30-2005 at 04:23 AM

Keyhole did provide free versions of the software and if you look you can see Google charges for the extra features just like Keyhole did. RE: Google Earth! by ~INVASION~ on 06-30-2005 at 09:43 PM keyhole didnt offer any free versions, i know google is charging extra for extra stuff, but keyhole never gave a free version (at least they didnt when i went ot get it) RE: Google Earth! by paperless on 06-30-2005 at 10:11 PM
You can see on right top of google earth page: "powered by Keyhole" RE: Google Earth! by ~INVASION~ on 06-30-2005 at 10:16 PM
quote:i know they bought keyhole quote: im just saying when keyhole wasnt affiliated with google, they didnt have a free version, ( i might be wrong, when i got it i was only allowed to use it for 7 days) RE: Google Earth! by paperless on 06-30-2005 at 10:30 PM Why am i getting a login problem!!!!!!!!??? i have no firewall or whatever blocking it1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 RE: Google Earth! by albert on 06-30-2005 at 11:22 PM

I'm hooked on this thing! I've already found my house, my Aunty and Uncles' house and my old primary school. I've already added heaps of place marks of my own. RE: RE: Google Earth! by Garndell on 07-01-2005 at 08:14 AM
quote: They offered a free version which came with a Watermark (annoying as it was), I used the free version before getting bored of it, lol. RE: RE: RE: Google Earth! by CookieRevised on 07-01-2005 at 10:09 AM
quote:Correct. I also had the free version for a long long time (without a watermark even; maybe that got added later on(?)) and enjoyed it fully, before I got bored by it. The interface, looks, maps, etc were exactly as the ones Google is using now (appart from some small touchs ups of course) RE: Google Earth! by rav0 on 07-01-2005 at 10:32 AM
If anyone has tried going to www.keyhole.com you can see that Keyhole doesn't exist anymore. RE: Google Earth! by CookieRevised on 07-01-2005 at 10:42 AM
quote:The old Keyhole program was also available at no charge! including exactly the same functions, restrictions, etc... quote:We are saying that Keyhole did come with a free version also. Nobody is comparing it per se... But you could compare it if you like, because when one company takes over another one, there are bound to be some changes. This is exactly the same as comparing MS AntiSpyware Program and the old Giant Program. RE: RE: Google Earth! by rav0 on 07-01-2005 at 12:27 PM
quote:I was going to use GIANT and Microsoft AntiSpyware as an example. My point was that Keyhole was under Google management for a while before adopting the new name. Microsoft took GIANT AntiSpyware, and gave it the Microsoft face as soon it aquired Giant Company Software, with larger changes than when Keyhole 2 became Google Earth. Google aquired Keyhole, and started influencing its development, but kept the Keyhole name for it. Now, the much Google-developed program has finally been given the Google name, with only minor changes. |
