win 98 video problem by Lou on 07-03-2005 at 07:33 PM

Alright everyone, I need some help. My brother has a windows 98 petium one computer and he is having troubles with his video card...because of that I see horribly on screen....I need someone to help me get it back to 16 bit or 256 colour...

Config:

    code:3Dfx (vodoo2) video card

    Petium 1
    Windows 98 second edition.

    Horribly colour on screen

    Current resolution: 600 by 480...resolution nedded: 600 by 800

The total is possible because we had it like this before untill windows 98  second edition was installed over the original windows 98

Help me out please!

are the drivers properly installed?

Is it possible to set 800x600 resolution and 16bit colors or you cannot change these settings at all? If so, can you do it in Safe Mode? Either way, I advise to go to safe mode and change settings there.

Was the screen okay before or has it been like this all the time? Anyway, try newest drivers and if they still don't work...is it 2 MB video card? Also the monitor could be old enough to not work with your desired settings.

By the way...since when is possible to translate Windows 98, like it is on that screenshot?

You might want to check the drivers for your Videocard and... yes and... your Monitor.. If your monitor is set to "Default Monitor" its possible that's the problem :)

Unfourtunately the people who made and sold the video card [3dfx company] went bankrupt, sold their Things to nvidia...and nvidia doesnt want anything to do with their past hardware:S so I cant update it...only way I was able to find [that didnt work] was this way:

It's got to be a problem with your drivers, try updating your computer.  http://update.microsoft.com
