Unable to connect? by matt546 on 07-15-2005 at 12:07 AM
My friend has not been able to get onto mess.be or msgplus.net for about 2 days now. I reformatted his machine about 3 days ago, im pretty sure this didnt cause it. His HOSTS file is clean, nothing is in it. Ive checked all spyware tools (spybot and spywareblaster) and they arent blocking it. Ive checked everything I could. I flushed his DNS, renewed his connection and restarted his cable modem. He still cannot connect. His ISP is Persona Internet (Ontario, Canada) and I was wondering if msgplus and mess.be have block lists? Has anyone else experienced these problems?
I had to manually send him msgplus extension but he cant do any options such as the Sounds or anything that requires for Msgplus to access msgplus servers.
Any help would be apprecaited. If this is wrong forum, i wasnt sure where to put, please move to appropiate forum section. Thanks
matt

Click Start > Run > cmd (then press enter)
Type the first line that is in the picture I posted then screenshot it or type what you see back to us.
This would be the correct forum.

Well, hes able to connect to 64.62.180.100 It seems a little slow but he can connect.
He still times out trying to get to mess.be or msgplus.net whether its IE, Opera, Firefox, anything. I personally think these two sites may have IP block lists or his ISP is blocking it for some reason.
I also did a tracert to mess.be
Also there is a news post on mess.be saying:
Finally, thanks to the dozens of Messers who have reported about their problems loading the Mess.be news page. Some of you have been (or will be) contacted for further voluntary investigation and testing.
Does he mean not loading whatsoever like my friend?

try adding mess's ip and hostname to your hosts file and see if it fixes anything

files.msgplus.net (64.62.180.101)
downloads.msgplus.net (64.62.180.101)

Don't worry: that's not slow at all. 100ms round trip time is pretty reasonable for a trip that long i.e. around the world.

No idea where the server is TBH. You'd have to ask Patchou and/or the forum admins, they're more likely to know.

Edit: Nevermind, I found the sticky post about the URLS being blocked by the HOSTS file, and did a search for msgplus.net . Surely enough, it was set to 127.0.0.1 . So I deleted those lines and lo and behold... the site appeared
www.msgplus.net doesn't seem to want to display in my browser (Mozilla Firefox 1.0.4, running on XP Home SP2). I've tried adding the URLs and relative IP addresses to my HOSTS file, and no joy. Here's a copy of a tracert...

So I don't see why nothing displays... it just ends up blank though. For the record, my connection is 2mb DS, 256kbps US.
