Hi iuz,

It seems while installing Messenger Plus! you have installed the sponsor program by mistake: you selected I ACCEPT, install the sponsor in the installation program.

This sponsor program is totally optional, and is not compulsory for the use of Messenger Plus.

Please note this is not spyware it's simply a small search bar for Internet Explorer so Patchou (the creator of Messenger Plus!) can make a living off it...

To remove it do the following;
If before doing the below you have attempted to remove the sponsor program by any other method, like spyware and adware removal tools, messed around in the registry or tried to delete files you must install Messenger Plus! again with the sponsor program before doing the below method.

- Click Start then Control Panel (classic view)
- Then click on Add/Remove programs
- The "Messenger Plus! - Uninstall" is now displayed.
- Two options are displayed, one will ask you to uninstall the sponsor program, and the other will uninstall Messenger Plus and the sponsor. Pick the first option to keep Messenger Plus, but remove the sponsor.
- Click Next
- You will be asked to type in a number that is displayed on a screen, do so, and click the resulting button next to the text field
- Close all Internet Explorer windows, and reboot your computer.

Yeah, that's a mistake of Microsoft's spyware database. Other software has similar problems, such as Mozilla Firefox.

More detail can be found here;

Open Favourites, right click on one of the links you wish to remove and click Delete. If that doesn't work Open Favourites, click on organize - Find the link you wish to remove and click on the delete button.

Those changes were made by the sponsor program. They should be undone when you uninstall it properly; apparently that hasn't happened. Take a look at How to uninstall ad-ware/sponsor for how to uninstall it properly (basically what Anubis said, yet more extensive) :)

Unfortunately I could not install Messenger Plus with sponsor either, as my anti-virus saw it as spyware, but as soon as I chose to install without the sponsor, it worked, sorry. Having said this, I do not usually use Internet Explorer anyway. This may happen to other people as well.

Slight confusion with terms there - the sponsor is 100% benign adware. Still, there's other ways to show support for Plus! - isn't there a Plus! store or something?

The same problem arose with smilies from smilycentral.com! I wrote to my anti-virus company, maybe in the future this sort of thing will not happen, but at present nothing doing!
