British hacker finds UFO cover ups in US gov't systems by TheMusicPirate on 07-25-2005 at 12:03 PM

This week 'The Interview' talks to the man described by US prosecutors as "the biggest military computer hack of all time". Briton Gary McKinnon stands accused of breaking and entering into US secret computer systems, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage, and effectively immobilising the military district of Washington DC for three days in 2002.

He faces charges in the US which could lead to up to 70 years in jail. Speaking in his first broadcast interview just days before his extradition hearing, McKinnon considers his own sense of naïve wrong-doing, but also denies causing damage and says he was acting out of "humanitarian" motives.

Yeah, I heard about this a small while ago. However he didn't find any evidence for UFOs in any system he broke into on his little "trip", however he was looking for it. Personally I believe the US government tried to hype up speculation of aliens, by making it seem so secretive and attractive...and it is not hard to spread rumours, anywhere.
We know that the US Military have several research posts and are developing things we aren't allowed to know about...its more likely the alien rumours were made up so that less people want to know what secrets the US Government have incase they need to pull a rabbit out of their hats at some point.

70 years! That's pretty long.

Sorry, if i've missed something, but where does it say about the UFO cover ups?

In the interview he mentions it, and also in other reports on the web...the whole reason he did it was to prove that aliens exist.
But tbh, I don't see how he could have caused damage, I mean if you're hacking into a system for data, you're just going to be downloading data, not causing damage. Apart from a bit of bandwidth on the system, I don't see how he did enough damage to result in a possible sentence of 70 years. And let's be honest, if one man can get into the US government's systems with the cause of downloading top secret data, what could an organised group who want to cause damage and steal really important data do?

I thought it was very interesting actually. It seemed so simple to get in. I agree with what he said about the military getting someone to look after the security of the computers instead of training someone already in the army.

Thanks for that TheMusicPirate(Y)
