Audio chat issues with MSN Messenger by Girish on 08-08-2005 at 12:24 PM

Hi,

I recently loaded MSN Messenger 7.0 on my Windows 2000 Professional system. This is a desktop that is connected to a Netgear Wireless router.

This router has uPNP enabled.

I am able to have text chats and am also able to see the web cam. But voice chat always fails. I get an error that the remote network is experiencing network difficulties. If I take my system off the router and connect it directly to the broadband modem, everything is fine.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

Also, I am a novice in networking.. So, if you have any idea on how ports can be enabled/disabled, it would be great !

Thanks and Regards
Girish

As UPnP is enabled, it shouldn't be a problem your end. However, since when you take the router out, the problem disappears, it is the router.
If you wish to fiddle with ports, read your router's manual. The ports MSN use are posted somewhere on this forum - a search should find them ;)
