quote:
What it is
With Hamachi you can organize two or more computers with an Internet connection into their own virtual network for direct secure communication.

Hamachi is fast, secure and simple. It is also free.

What's in it for me
Think - LAN over the Internet.

Think - Zero-configuration VPN.

Think - Secure peer-to-peer.

Access computers remotely. Use Windows File Sharing. Play LAN games. Run private Web or FTP servers. Communicate directly. Stay connected.

Technology
Hamachi is a zero-configuration virtual private networking application with an open security architecture and NAT-to-NAT traversal capabilities.

Hamachi is the first application to mix seemingly unrelated networking technologies in one powerful package to deliver an unprecedented level of peer-to-peer connectivity. More ...

Security

Hamachi is secure. All Hamachi communications are encrypted and authenticated with industry-standard algorithms and protocols. Nobody will be able to see what two Hamachi peers are talking about. Not even us.

However what is equally important - Hamachi security architecture is completely open meaning that its detailed description is available for the review to anyone interested. More ...

Ease of Use
A special effort went into designing and polishing Hamachi user interface. The result is sleek, simple and intuitive, while still very much functional. Everything you need, nothing you don't.

Hamachi software contains no spyware, bannerware or any other -ware unrelated to its purpose. And it never will.

Its like VPN but then without hassle. all you need is to get your friends in the same 'network'(which you can create yourself(msgplus network anyone?) and password protect if needed :D) you can browse them, they can set up lan servers and play lan games though the internet. Just remember to set your windows share to low or off cause its also possible(like in a real network) to explore ones shared folders

i'm behind a router and it works without having to change any setting :D so try it.. it onws (playing unreal tournament 2004 on 'lan')

EDIT: Network: msgplus
pass: test

Isn't a LAN over the internet defeating the object of it completely... If it is over the internet, then surely, it's not really that local? Local as in the same building... Local Area Network...

RE: Lanning over the Internet by Max on 08-23-2005 at 06:28 PM

Shouldn't this be Wanning over the Internet?

Since your doing it over a Wide Area Network?

technically you are right, that type of connection would be a WAN (wide area network) but it uses the principles of a lan connection i am guessing.
edit: patches wins
RE: Lanning over the Internet by Lieter on 08-23-2005 at 06:31 PM

ok.. its live VPN... but you can play lan games like they are on your LAN :)

Maybe the data doesnt have to pass through the game's online server so
it is faster?

I dunno...

Try leaving the password field empty...
Who knows, it may work...

RE: Lanning over the Internet by Lieter on 08-24-2005 at 09:33 AM

thats a windows file share thingy.... he has to use the same name  and pass for his computer as he has on your computer(he needs an account on each computer)

It could be faster because it's running peer-to-peer and only two players instead of many more players over a third party server, but it wouldn't be substantially faster.

If simple file sharing is ON, then you just need to make sure the guest account is enabled and has no password.

If it is OFF, you must create a user with the exact same username and password on both computers

How can I check if it is on or not?
RE: Lanning over the Internet by Mike on 08-24-2005 at 06:58 PM

Ok, I downloaded this program, but is it possible to not show the other
users of the network I am in the things that I am sharing and show
things that I only want to be shown?
