MY CG Movie by NiteMare on 08-28-2005 at 06:09 AM

ok, this file is about 221 mb, but its a great 5 minute CG movie i made, it took me about 6 months total to make, and around 500 hours or rendering, i hope you enjoy

Warning: this file is 221 Mb large, for those on dial up, this will take for ever

this one is a 33mb file. same movie but the quality it crap, and the movie is squished,(kinda flat), but its still my movie, i recommend teh larger one, but this one is the smaller one
see below for better quality smaller files

Update: thanks to multimillion2k i now have some smaller files

And for dial-up users (half-size):
http://s41.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2EZ4WLM30GKOJ1LWJ0D285CT73 - 9.2Mb

(The audio clipping is from the original movie..)
edit, they no longer work, heres is the 30MB file:

RE: MY CG Movie by multimillion2k on 08-28-2005 at 06:13 AM

Ever considered re-encoding in another format? :S
Or at least a lower bitrate..

RE: MY CG Movie by NiteMare on 08-28-2005 at 06:15 AM

i did, the original avi was 2 Gb's but i just can't bring my self to lower teh quality any more, and if i reduse the resolution, in premeire, it ruins everything(the effects, and what not)

RE: MY CG Movie by L. Coyote on 08-28-2005 at 06:17 AM

You could make a trailer of it? Or a sample. :p

Besides, you'll eat a lot of the bandwidth of that site.

RE: MY CG Movie by NiteMare on 08-28-2005 at 06:33 AM

he has unlimited bandwidth, anyways, i put a 33mb file on there the quality it crap, and the movie is squished,(kinda flat), but its still my movie, i recommend teh larger one, but this one is the smaller one

RE: MY CG Movie by Pinchichuv on 08-28-2005 at 07:58 AM

If you use a codec like XviD you could lower the file size a lot while loosing small amounts of quality.
Download and install Koepi's XviD Codec (both encoding and decoding) If you need to set it up a guide can be found at www.koepi.org
Then Download and install VirtualDubMod.

Once you have done that open the file (the original 1gb AVI would be great as the quality will be about the same as the 221mb MPG one but if you use the 221mb MPG version to start the process you will have both MPEG and XviD artifacts, but it won't make a lot of difference).
-For any warnings you get about VBR click No.
-Then click Video > Compression > Select "XviD MPEG-4 Codec" as the codec and then click OK. OK to any more messages.
- Then click Video again and select Full Processing Mode
- Click file, then save as and pick a location for the new file, and wait for the process to finish (it could take a small amount of time).
- Once done you will have a file about the same quality as the 221mb MPEG version, but this time using an MPEG-4 stream that allows it to be a fraction of the size.

Make a trailer nitemare :-/

RE: MY CG Movie by multimillion2k on 08-28-2005 at 09:09 AM

I did a quick re-encode and I ended up with a 30MB file encoded in Xvid - I'll post it if you like. I'm sure had I done a 2-pass encode it would have been reduced quite alot more. I'd say the quality is about 95% of the quality of your 221MB one. That's a major difference! Seven times smaller..

RE: MY CG Movie by user27089 on 08-28-2005 at 09:10 AM

Can you please post it, I really want to watch the movie... Thanks :).

Wow! (Y)

Great work, NiteMare! Very interesting. I know I suck at those things... :P

And thanks multimillion2k for the smaller (30MB) file. I'm on DSL, but it doesn't mean I'll wait 2 hours for a 200MB+ file. :P

RE: MY CG Movie by Negro_Joe on 08-28-2005 at 10:43 AM

I wnna see it i just cant be bothered to download it! A trailer would be good! What is it about anyways?

RE: MY CG Movie by NiteMare on 08-28-2005 at 05:24 PM

lol, for the amount of detail in this, a trailer would take about 2 weeks for me to make :P

[Edit:] i'll consiter it if i have any free time

[Edit #2:], if i'm going to make a trailer, someone has to suggest some suspence music, that would be good for a trailer

CG or CGI in movie terms stands for Computer Generated Image

i didn't create the meshes(the ships them selves), i downloaded tehm off the internet, but the meshes were badly incomplete, so about 40% of the ship design is mine the other 60% of the meshes, are credited in teh end credits

but all effects, sound editing, and animation is my own work
RE: MY CG Movie by Jimcando on 08-31-2005 at 03:33 PM

I'm downloading at the moment....I'll come back and tell you what I think.

I tried my hand at doing some 3D modelling a bit ago but I found it almost impossible. Did you do this as a school project?

RE: MY CG Movie by fluffy_lobster on 08-31-2005 at 04:31 PM

Man I wish I could produce that kind of stuff... I can't afford the software to do it though, although I'm getting quite fluent with blender.  What I really need is something better than my 2ghz celeron so that I can process meshes and raytrace things without tearing my hair out in boredom.

yup, i took the course in grade 11 & 12, each course was devided up in to "modules", about 6 a semester, this progect took me about 5 of my total 8 modules (long story on why its not 12), ;) i got 100% on each module

thats one of the reasons i build my 3.0 GHz P4 , but i can't say i could afford all the software;)

lol, nope, the teacher just said he couldn't give me a higher marks i had to stick with that, btw, he's now using my movie as a teaching aid;)
RE: MY CG Movie by multimillion2k on 08-31-2005 at 07:32 PM

I think based on the fact that animation of this quality was considered professional not too long ago, it's something to be proud of.

RE: MY CG Movie by Jimcando on 09-01-2005 at 12:13 AM

I just downloaded it and wow!
Very well done!

I gotta go now cos some rather large flies have just flown in *hides*

well, when the ships "re-unite" u can see that one ship is going thru another, like overlaping

and i dont know about this but the ships texture seemed kind of boring, like it was made out of plastic, i know i've done stuff in 3d programs and the thing you "mold" stuff out of has plastic-like texture, so i dont know if you wanted to be this way or not, but other than that good job ! :)
RE: MY CG Movie by *Saint* on 09-02-2005 at 02:36 AM
