RE: Blueyonder broadband question by Negro_Joe on 08-29-2005 at 10:57 PM Sometimes poeple have a dynamic IP address, this means that your IP will change every now and again RE: Blueyonder broadband question by mwe99 on 08-29-2005 at 10:58 PM
I looked on BlueYonder help and it says: RE: Blueyonder broadband question by vincerooney on 08-29-2005 at 11:01 PM

quote: Np and yeah it probably is slightly safer, would be nice to be told though , especially if you play multiplayer games but it would be pointless to tell everyone lol, then you get people calling tech support saying Whats an IP! RE: Blueyonder broadband question by Negro_Joe on 08-29-2005 at 11:32 PM Its ok! i like helping poeple it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! RE: Blueyonder broadband question by Chris.1 on 08-30-2005 at 09:38 AM With blueyonder, if you don't reset your modem (power cycle it) or phone them and ask them to carry out maintenance on your line you will be able to keep the same IP address for longer. Or, at least, that's what I've found. RE: RE: Blueyonder broadband question by vincerooney on 08-30-2005 at 12:27 PM
quote: I tried a few months ago to try and change my IP. I turned it off on the wall and left it over night but couldnt change it. I never figured out how to do it. Whats power cycling? RE: Blueyonder broadband question by fluffy_lobster on 08-30-2005 at 01:23 PM I'm assuming power cycling is putting the modem through its power cycle i.e. reboot it. I think your IP only changes if someone else needs your old one which in always-on broadband terms is relatively rarely. If you need to keep one, get an ethernet broadband modem, which stays connected since your computer connects to it (almost instantly) as a seperate LAN connection, and configuration usually works via a little web panel hosted on the modem. quote: In my experience with my ISP, it's the MAC (Media Access Control) address of the thing that's connected to the modem that controls if you get a new IP. Whenever I've changed routers, I've gotten a new IP, and also if I leave the router unplugged for 10+ hours, which never happens unless there's a power outage. Im on blueyonder, I been on for like a year and my IP never changed till the other day, how crazy is that!! RE: Blueyonder broadband question by segosa on 08-30-2005 at 02:44 PM It's your ISP that determines whether you have a dynamic or static IP. I find it kind of scary how my IP hasn't changed for the last 7/8 years. RE: Blueyonder broadband question by Concord Dawn on 08-30-2005 at 02:59 PM
