I re-installed My operating System but before  i did that  i backed up my encrypted chat logs... now wen im tryin to get them opened it would open it say access denied.. HELP PLZ.. THESE ARE IMPORTANT CHAT LOGS
and  i installed the msgplug again but they wouldnt open

I said  i did over my computer but the chatlogs wouldnt open.cause  i had it on the computer  before  i did it over and  now im try to get them opened they locked... it says access denied

Did you just reinstall windows or did you format? If you reformated, there is no way you can open them

Try to take the ownership of the file. I never used any security options on my pc so I don't know exatly how to do it. It's posssible you had also encrypton on your pc turned on and now with new install it won't let you access the old files.

So How Do I turn It off?

God, man, read the help!

"Access Denied" is a message that would be displayed by Windows, not Messenger Plus!. Select all your files, right click on them, go to Properties, then Security, then Owner, select your account and click OK. Once done, go again in Properties, Security, click on Add, type the name of your account, click OK, then for your account, select "Full Control" and click OK again.

If you follow these steps properly, it should give you back access to your files. If the Security panel doesn't display the proper options to do those operations, either try working with the basic security settings or in your Explorer, go to Tools\Folder Options, click View and at the bottom of the lick, disable "Use simple file sharing" (and restart Windows).

When you double lick on your chat logs, ehat exact message do you get? (a screenshot would be the best I guess).

This error message seems to have little to do with Messenger and Messenger Plus!. It looks like an error message shown when you use the NTFS file system and do not have enough permissions to access the file.

Ensure that the file permissions are correct. If you are using an administrator account you should be able to regain ownership over the files, which should resolve this issue.

It can not be opened in other computer 'cause the keyes for encryption are on your hard-disk.

edit: are you sure you didn't format the drive your operating system is? how exatly did you reinstall windows?

If you did format, there is NO WAY you can recover those files Impossible.

To avoid this happening in a future, I recommend you to turn off the encryption on your hard drive. If you really-really want to hide something from someone, just zip the files with password, don't encrypt them.

This was not caused by Plus!

well  i used  plus to do it
the new plus

But if encryption on your hard drive is also turned on, it does automatically encrypt your files in My Documents folder. You should turn it off as you seems not to know much about it. Just read the windows help and you will understand better.

Well if you are willing to pay money, a professional can decrypt them...

Well, to tell you the truth, I think It's hopless situation. I don't believe the keyes can be recovered. You can give it a try if you want but the chance that those keyes can be recovered is in my opinion 0
