Having looked in my user folder for backgrounds I can't find the defaultbackground. Is there anyway I can view this and edit like a normal jpg/png?

In CookieRevised's reply to "re-name display pics?" you can find out where your background's are saved.

Thanks, but I already know where the backgrounds are stored and how to convert the DAT fileinto an image file, it's just I want to be able to do it to the default MSN background which does not appear to be in the backgrounds folder.

The light blue background is in the msnmsgr.exe file, afaik. I have it here.
Is that the one you meant?
