groups with sub-groups by greg001 on 09-27-2005 at 05:47 PM

i have always wondered this....
i would like to see sub groups in MSN.  Groups within groups.
has anyone else thought of this?  or would like to see this in the standard MSN?

It's been suggested before. It's not possible because of the MSN protocol and how MSN Messenger shows its contacts...

A workaround is to rename your groups as:

Sub Groups (saralk's suggestion taken from there).

This has been requested several times since groups existed in MSN Messenger....

To be fully working and compatible with everything, it needs to be done by MSN Messenger itself. Another way around it is to write your own "MSN protocol using" chatclient and interpret and display the groups yourself accordingly to their names: interpret the group "my maingroup - subgroup1" as a subgroup of another group called "my maingroup".

This isn't something which can easly be done by eg: Messenger Plus!... It is possible though, but certainly not easy at all...

yea, i was suggesting that MS should add it in MSN.  Why I put it in the "MSN/Windows Messenger" forum.

but it would be a big help to me.

The developpers of Microsoft don't roam 3rd party forums (well some do, but that's not officially). If you want to make a suggestion to Microsoft and/or the MSN Messenger team you need to do it the proper way:
