So many people are downloading at once, and there is no verified upload/download limit, so you could be downloading from one person that has 56k internet, and another that has 1mbps, then another that has 128, it will vary loads... There are loads of people downloading from these people at once aswell, which slows it down. RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by Savior on 09-28-2005 at 06:20 PM I'm not impressend I'm downloading a beta program at 14kbps RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by ZrednaZ on 09-28-2005 at 06:37 PM
It all depends on the number of active users on the torrent (and of course how much they're uploading), and let's not forget the matter of setting up your router properly. This will mean the difference between a d/l speed of 5 KB/s vs. 100-200 KB/s all depending on the circumstances... Personally I've just opened DMZ for my computer cuz I'm not that much into adjusting individual ports, but that means any sort of firewall protection within the router is automatically bypassed... RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by Savior on 09-28-2005 at 07:47 PM I'm using azeurus and downloading nero 7 beta and it's only giving me 2.9kps download RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by Ezra on 09-28-2005 at 08:54 PM
With me it's my ISP , Because they introduced the 20 Mbit connections a while ago they are using Packet Shaping Software to give packets priorities and P2P is getting the lowest priority RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by steVenB on 09-28-2005 at 09:11 PM When I was using norton AV, I found out that with worm protection ON, transfer rates were painfully slow. RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by No Nick on 09-29-2005 at 08:30 AM I am using bitcommet its so fast RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by _Humphreys on 09-29-2005 at 08:33 AM
quote: That's as nearly fast as most P2P downloads I get. In my exprience Bit-Torrent is pretty fast. RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by evil_panda on 09-29-2005 at 02:10 PM
Bit- torrent is difinitly a fast downloading system but sometimes it can get on your nervs when it always says "more sources needed" i hate that i also use azureus btw its really good althought abc bittorent was also good RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by Stigmata on 09-29-2005 at 02:13 PM
you could be using other programs that hog the interweb. RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by spokes on 09-29-2005 at 03:22 PM i usually get about 70KBps if i'm lucky, I'm using ABC, used to use BitTornado RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by rav0 on 09-30-2005 at 12:29 AM
It's not BitTorrent that's slow, its the actual torrent you have. If someone on dialup is the only seeder and 1000 people at 0% are download a file from them, it will be unbearably slow. If there are lots of peple contributing a good upload speed to the whole torrent, it will be faster. RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by YottabyteWizard on 09-30-2005 at 06:28 PM
Firewalls are almost the painful problem, check your program for the ports it uses. By default Azureus use the port 6881, BitTornado and some other bitorrent clients use a random port between 10000-60000 or something like that just as vincerooney said. Keep in mind you have to enable the ports in Windows Firewall (iof you have it enalbed) and your router (if you have one and is enabled). RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by prashker on 10-01-2005 at 05:41 PM Since were talking about Bittorrent slow im wondering. I have port forwarded my bittorrent and my downloads are at usually 300kb/s but why does it takke all my bandwith becuase i have 3mb/s ??? ok well your connection probably isent 100 just your card is. I have a 55mb one. RE: RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by rav0 on 10-01-2005 at 11:33 PM
quote: I'll assume that you neglected to type the units properly, or you didn't know the difference. 3 Mbps means 3 megabits per second, and is the same as 384 KB/s, which means 384 kilobytes per second. If you are utilising 300 KB/s out of a theoretical maximum of 384 KB/s, you're doing good IMO. BitTorrent uses more overhead information than HTTP. The overhead is data sent over a connection which isn't the file you are transferring, including TCP ack packets, and in BitTorrent's case, requests for pieces. A BitTorrent download is split into virtual pieces of equal size when the torrent is created. The size of each piece is set by the creator, but would generally be 2 MB for larger torrents. In smaller torrents (10 MB) it would make more sense to use a piece such as 64 KB. Clients will use these pieces to identify parts of the file, and will usually download the rarest parts that they don't have first. RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by prashker on 10-01-2005 at 11:42 PM yeah sorry i did it wrong, That explains it. Thanks RE: Why is bitorent so slow? by rav0 on 10-02-2005 at 07:49 AM
