quote:I doubt there is ever some comprehensive test done like that. Some test and/or people will say browser X will use the most resources, another will say browser Y. It highly depends on what sites you're using for the comparisson and stuff... Anyways, if you simply want an address bar (and a go button; which you don't need since you can press enter also ), why not simply edit your browser preferences so only that is shown? RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by Sunshine on 11-05-2005 at 07:05 PM Least CPU and mem..mhmm..Opera i think (of the ones i know). RE: RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by n0n4m3 on 11-05-2005 at 07:13 PM
quote: Opera is great! It's the fastest browser i've ever used and has other great features. Although firefox has huge memory leaks if you keep it running for a long time without closing, it's the one I prefer due to its extensions. Now I can't live without the extensions RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by linx05 on 11-06-2005 at 04:27 AM Well Maxthon is using about 8mb at the moment (stays around 5-6mb on sites like this). Never goes up any higher really. Sometimes, due to heavy websites but that is expected. RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by rav0 on 11-06-2005 at 04:28 AM
Lynx! I think you might want a few more features though. RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by paperless on 11-06-2005 at 04:36 AM
I use Opera and it uses a lot of CPU.. i dunno if its because i maintain open 10 + tabs eachh time i use it... RE: RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by rav0 on 11-06-2005 at 04:55 AM
quote:There have been times when I have been cruising with 100+ open tabs in Opera (now is one of those times), it didn't cause a rise in CPU usage. memory usage was obviously high, hundreds of megabytes, but after running a game for a while, the memory usage dropped to about 50 MB, thanks to the intelligent memory usage. Umm you can use mine... RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by M73A on 11-06-2005 at 08:31 PM

quote: Opera does this thing were it saves the cache in your RAM, so its really fast, but it releases the memory if another program needs it. RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by EvilSeph on 11-07-2005 at 07:33 AM
These days you can't compare something like that. Each browser out there can theoretically utilise a different memory usage method. RE: RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by rav0 on 11-07-2005 at 07:50 AM
quote:Youe second statement disproves the first. That's exactly why we can compare resource usage between browsers. RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by Pyro on 11-07-2005 at 07:59 AM
i like RE: RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by brian on 11-07-2005 at 09:34 AM
quote: IE's usage does looks low, but IE is always running in explorer.exe, that's why it loads fast, and explorer.exe goes higher with more surfing.. RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by rav0 on 11-08-2005 at 05:25 AM
Not always. Internet Explorer can work from explorer.exe but if it is running from iexplore.exe, then it wont affect explorer.exe. RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by zach on 11-08-2005 at 06:25 AM
quote:Doesn't firefox and most of the other browsers do that? Right now I am using firefox and it is using 46mb... Edit: Here it says that Opera was the fastest... quote:Oh, okay. Is there an extension that will make this possible? (I am using fasterfox) I downloaded Opera to give it a go and I really liked it. I think that it felt faster and better to use than firefox, but I am used to firefox and all my extensions I have (which make it slow to start up). I will keep using Opera for a while and see if I like it more, but I think I will stay with firefox because I use alot of extensions that Opera doesn't have. RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by rav0 on 11-08-2005 at 06:31 AM Firefox doesn't do that. In fact, Firefox utilises its cache very little, especially for web pages, that way, it makes more requests, and the times that Firefox appears in the logs of a website is higher. RE: Which Browser uses the least CPU and Mem? by ibisdevil2 on 11-08-2005 at 09:20 PM i have somehting on this in one of my pc magazines and IE uses less cpu but it not got a lot in it about a kb between IE and firefox "if i find the article i telll you |
