using proxy MSN by unk1506 on 02-06-2006 at 08:34 PM

Hello, in the first versions of MSN 7, in connection options i could set a proxy and a port to connect to MSN, but since 7.5 (i think) this can't be done on MSN, it has to be done on the connections settings in Internet Explorer and MSN takes the configuration from there. The thing is that i have internet access through port 80, but MSN is blocked and the only way to use it is with proxies, but i don't want internet explorer to use the proxy configuration because it becomes slow. Is there a way to use proxies in MSN independently from Internet Explorer?

thanks in advance,
unknown.

You can set up proxy information in Messenger itself: it's always been possible.

go to TOOLS > OPTIONS > Connections Tab > ADVANCED SETTINGS Button in MSN Messenger

No, it's not possible anymore, the field is disabled and it says to configure it in internet explorer and it will take the settings from there. i attach an image.

Most proxies that are freely available over the net are inherently slow . I take it you cant get the messenger ports unblocked ? .

If so then there is not a lot you can do tbh .

I think it was plain stupid to force MSN to take IE settings, it should be optional...

Edit: Actually, it is for the HTTP proxy, so use a SOCKS proxy.

what kind of internet connection do you have (dial up, cabel, dsl, t1). Also if possible could you give us a link to your ISP (Internet service provider) maybe we can see what is wrong ect.

It's not ISP problem, corporate firewall, they force ppl to use web msn, but since i hate it...

Your only other option is to go be nice to the techies . They can route you round the proxy .
