Half-Life 2 Video Problem [fixed] by Ghost_Stalker on 02-13-2006 at 10:29 PM

Just reciently, when I've tried to play Half-Life 2, the display gets all messed up. It used to work perfectly, but now when the menu is about to load, the screen goes all screwie and I have to restart my laptop.
My laptop specs are:

CPU: Intel Centrino 1.86GHz with 2MB L2 Cache
HDD: 100GB SATA
DVD: 8x Dual-Layer DVD+-RW
VID: ATI Mobile Radeon X700 with 256MB Dedicated RAM
RAM: 1024MB DDR2 400 RAM
DIS: 15.4" Widescreen XGA display
NIC: Intel 802.11G WiFi

My display drivers are up to date, and everything is fine. I can run Counter-Strike: Source, Day Of Defeat: Source, and Half-Life: Source all fine. Its only HL2.

At one point, the game did completely lock up, and its after that point that I get this. I've also tried reinstalling HL2 only. No change tho. I'm using Steam.

Any ideas?

Hey Boosey you check the error log at all to see what it says? Probably in the root directory or you can check the Windows Event Log > Applications.

Thanks Pokey! I'll give that a try.

:mipdodgy: You shouldn't call me that name in public :P

Anyways aside from that, try downloading an update from the server.

It is up to date. Checks for updates everytime I start STEAM

EDIT
Seems that Half-Life 2 is working now. I hooked up LAPPY_486 (thats what I call my laptop. Confused? Go checkout Strongbad Email 118 and Strongbad Email 119 for more information) to my work LAN, and decided to fire up the game, just to see if I could get an error report when it fecks up... and it worked!
