Latest Version of WLM Not Colour Blind Friendly by trailtwister on 03-07-2006 at 03:59 PM

Hey Guys,

Are there any other colour blind (defficient) people out there who notice that the upgrade to WLM has left the online and offline contacts almost impossible to differentiate.

I am just a invite but someone who is a actual beta tester should make someone at Microsoft aware of this... its kind of annoying.

Thank All

Kurtis

They are aware of the problem and it was temporary placed there ;)

In Beta 1, choosing to colorize with dark made the text hard to read. As a temporary solution, we made all colors light. With your strong feedback, we?ve made it a high priority to fix the colorization for the next release

About what exact build are you talking about (as I'm not 100% convinced the quote posted by Absorbation is about that specific problem as it is about the very first build of WLM and not about the newer builds which you might be talking about.)

To find the exact and complete build number, go to the menu "Help > About Messenger"  and copy/paste the complete number you'll see there.

Hi,

I am currently running 8.0.0566, as far as I am concerned it is the newest version available, I was forced to upgrade to it a couple days ago.

Thanks

Kurtis

I see... so indeed the quote posted by Absorbation isn't about that issue, as that quote refers to the old first beta (long absolete now).

Anyways, invited WLM users can still report stuff by using the menu "Help > Send Feedback". You might wanna try that.

The issue is indeed important (as far as I'm concearned)...

And this said, I'm wondering if you are color blind also or have some experiance in that field? Or if it was just a thing which you noticed and thought it would be difficult for certain people...

I'm asking this because Patchou is currently busy coding Messenger Plus! Live (the next version of Messenger Plus!) and I think he and Guido (the GUI designer) maybe might wanna get some input/suggestions/thoughts about the new GUI of Messenger Plus! too concearing this.

AFAICT, there's always been this issue, since online is green, offline is red, and red-green is the most common colour blindness.

I am infact colour blind, I have a defficiency to Greens and Purples.  And I was fine with older versions of msn, and The last version (the one before the current WLM) had The dark greek, light green and white and that worked fine for me, its just that from my perspective both the online and offline are kind of a muted grey.

I've notified Patchou about this thread and he said that he already has someone (color-blind) to check out the GUI of Messenger Plus!, but two people checking is always better than one (especially since there are many degrees and types of color-blindness)... so who knows...

PS: don't forget to alert the Messenger team either: "Help > Send Feedback"

;)

--... Messenger should make an all black and white one for color-blind people... haha.... That way it'd be userfriendly for all the people with deficiancy in their colors...

Thanks Alot,

And I did notify WLM through the Feedback section of the problem that I have found, so only time will tell what they will do about it.

I'm not even colour-blind in the slightest yet sometimes even I have trouble telling the difference between an online contact and an offline contact on WLM.

Here's hoping they change the colour design quickly like last time, this was a good thing on the side of the MSN team.

i totally understand as i am  bit colour blind myself,  but as im aware these icons arent final?  so colours will/may change again  but again microsoft have to be aware of it

In the meantime may i suggest to group offline contacts together (contacts > sort contacts by)? You can group them together no matter what sorting method you prefer. This will avoid confusion as to who is online and who is not ;)

I'm not colourblind but yes, i did prefer the bigger buddies and the white for offline aswell...i have no idea why they made offlines darkgrey. The buddies were fine as they were in the first beta, all it needed was a distinction between "away" and "busy".
