Webcams by Ali Cat on 03-08-2006 at 09:11 PM

I was wondering if it were possible for someone to use another person/computer's webcam as their own. I'm not asking this for any other reason than to be safe! :P

RE: Webcams by M73A on 03-08-2006 at 09:17 PM

if your firends are anything like mine they will have lost the driver disc....

but most drivers can be downloaded from the manufacturers website...

RE: Webcams by Ali Cat on 03-08-2006 at 09:18 PM

I guess I wasn't clear *-). I meant, can someone use another person's camera, whilst the other person has it installed in another computer, in another place?

RE: Webcams by Kryptonate on 03-08-2006 at 09:22 PM

A person can't just use your webcam from another location :).

RE: Webcams by Ali Cat on 03-08-2006 at 09:23 PM

Cheers! :D

RE: Webcams by M73A on 03-08-2006 at 09:25 PM

hmm cool idea... what about if the camera is on the local network?

RE: Webcams by YourNeibour on 03-08-2006 at 09:27 PM

Yeah probably through Remote access or SMS.

RE: Webcams by Ali Cat on 03-08-2006 at 09:27 PM

So it is possible?

RE: Webcams by Kryptonate on 03-08-2006 at 09:33 PM

It is possible yes but then there should be another program being installed on your computer first. So be sure to know what you install :).

RE: Webcams by LittleK on 03-08-2006 at 09:36 PM

I think what he means is can you use someone elses camera at another computer, as your own at your computer. The answer to this is of course not, how the hell would the webcamera see YOU

If this isn't what you meant, i appologise for my stupidity :P

RE: Webcams by Ali Cat on 03-08-2006 at 09:38 PM

No, that is what i meant, thankyou, you've put my mind at rest. :D

RE: Webcams by Kryptonate on 03-08-2006 at 09:42 PM

Hm, I thought Ali Cat ment if it was possible for someone else to take control of your webcam. That the webcam can't be used to show you instead of the owner is pretty obvious no? :p

RE: Webcams by Ali Cat on 03-08-2006 at 09:45 PM

I did mean, could it show the user2, as user1's webcam image. While user2 is in another town/county/whatever? (I'm hoping people understand me now :$)

RE: Webcams by Kryptonate on 03-08-2006 at 09:47 PM

No, your webcam wouldn't be able to show another person if that person is not in the same room as your webcam.

Yes, think about it.
You are connected via netmeeting with the person with the cam.
You use camtasia to set the video feed recieved as a webcam.(if its still possible)             You use msn messenger to send it to who you want.
Complicated, but i think possible.

RE: Webcams by enone on 03-08-2006 at 11:47 PM

i think wut ali cat ment was if heor she was able to spy others through their camera... and that they dont know dat.... understand now...

RE: Webcams by Ezra on 03-08-2006 at 11:58 PM

I think ali cat is afraid someone will use some program to spy on him with his webcam.

RE: Webcams by qgroessl on 03-08-2006 at 11:59 PM

Yes it's possible using a trojan.... It's very illegal though.... and I'm pretty sure if you do a periodic virus scan you can be sure that nobody is spying on you.

Yeah,  it sounded like that to me,
Ali cat, if someone did, you will notice because internet will go really slow.
or, if you want to be super secure, put a piece of tape in the webcams lens  while not using it. :refuck:
