Messenger 8 Compability >>READ<< by nichonico on 05-04-2006 at 12:11 PM

So I was roaming the internet the other day, and I came accross a date of release for Messenger 8.

The site said "Microsoft plans to launch MSN 8, the next version of its online service, on Oct. 24, CNET News.com learned on Monday.

The Redmond, Wash.-based software giant plans to make the announcement on Tuesday, along with additional details about MSN 8. On Monday, Microsoft signed off on the gold, or final code, to MSN 8.
" (Quoted from http://news.com.com/2100-1023-960223.html )

This makes me think a bit, as on this site somewhere it was stated that the Plus! Live will be released shortly after msn 8's release "In a few weeks."

Does that mean that one of the sites is wrong, or I will have to wait till October to be able to use plus with messenger 8, beta or not? *-)

Anyone have comments on this, or any added info?

So then who decided WLM would just "Start it's version at 8", if it's a whole different program, wouldn't they start their version numbers a little bit lower...?

MSN, the program, has been around for ages. Its an internet service I think.

The program mentioned in the link has nothing to do with Messenger/WLM whatsoever

Msn 8 and wlm are the same.
No they are not.

Read that link. MSN 8 is NOT Messenger, otherwise it would be called MSN Messenger or WLM.

You just answered everything I was confused about lol, ty.
When people hear "MSN" they automatically assume it's to do with the messenger service.

:dodgy:
The link you posted is about MSN 8 Internet Software. Nowhere does it mention about Messenger or WLM, and as Ghost of da ages, quite rightly said, the article was published in September 2002

That's not what the news said either...

It said:

Messenger Plus! Live will be released a few weeks after Windows Live Messenger is released.

not:

Messenger Plus! Live will be released after Windows Live Messenger is released, which is in a few weeks.

Windows Live Messenger (as that is what you mean with "MSN") is simply a name change from MSN Messenger. The program is still the same (well appart from the added features and new GUI).
