Video Playback problems after hibernation (and some more problems after hibernation) by Mike on 05-12-2006 at 08:28 PM

Hello.

My father's laptop has problems playing videos after it returns from hibernation mode to power mode.

It is an Acer Aspire 1400 laptop with an ATI Radeon Mobility M6 graphics card.

The problem is, that when I try to play a video (it also seems to happen with other applications that try to use DirectX? For example, he has a 3D fish screensaver, and if it is launched after hibernation, it displays the error (read below))

The video seems to play fine for a few seconds, but then, it seems that the computer freezes for another few seconds, and the sound makes a loop from the last part played) and then the player crashes, and the following error appears:

And the resolution changes to 640x480 and the colours change to something low (4 colours?)
Here's a screenshot of it:

I have to restart the laptop then and videos playback fine.

When the system is restarted a message appears saying something like "Windows has recovered from a serious error" with the famous send error report and don't send report buttons.
When I send the report, it says that the graphics card caused the problem, and it suggests that I update the drivers.

I'm not sure if I have the latest drivers, since I can't find much for Mobility M6 at the ATI site...

I found a program called DH ATI File Version which shows the version number for some important files for ATI cards, and here is a screenshot of it:

It seems that some files are missing?

I think about uninstalling the ATI drivers, and install the OmegaDrivers and see if this solves my problem.
But have you got anything else for me to try before trying this?

For more information just ask :)

Thanks :)

Thanks :)

When I click the link you posted, there are several categories:

        * RADEON
        * ALL-IN-WONDER
        * TV Tuners
        * Remote Controls
        * FireGL
        * FireMV
        * RAGE
        * Motherboards with ATI Graphics
        * Notebooks with ATI Graphics

Should I just click Radeon, or Notebooks With ATI Graphics?

On the Radeon category:

# Catalyst 6.4 Windows XP - Driver Download

# ATI Multimedia Center 9.13

# HYDRAVISION - For RADEON and Mobile ATI Products

# Catalyst Crew Feedback

Should I download the Catalyst or Hydravision?

On the Notebooks with ATI Graphics category:

   1. Catalyst Mobility 6.4 for Windows XP

   2. HYDRAVISION - For RADEON and Mobile ATI Products

On the Catalyst link, it doesn't say anything about Acer computers or Mobility M6 :-/

The Hydravision link seems to be the same as the other one...

Which one should I download?

Thank you :)

"Unfortunatly, this software update cannot be installed on your system. Please contact your notebook manufacturer for driver updates." :(

This was from Catalyst Mobility 6.4 for Windows XP...

I think I might just install the OmegaDrivers and see if they work...

Sorry for the double post btw
