File Transfered file deleted by Lou on 05-30-2006 at 01:22 AM

It's happened a few times. A friend sends a file, it takes a very long time to send, and then guess what happens when I clikc the conversation in WLM? I get a windows error that tels me windows has decided to disable the file so I have to redownload it again because Microsoft think they can control what files go on my computer without my permission. Is there any way to fix this? I tried contacting Microsoft about it but they don't allow prouduct support for any windows version that was not bought directly from Microsoft.

edit: this is the sortof error I get http://shoutbox.menthix.net/attachment.php?pid=580434

You should be able to enable the file in its file properties.

The file was completely deleted right off the computer or at least, I couldn't see it. (Hidden files are enabled so I can see them)

If it's the same problem as me, once the file has downloaded, it has a link in the conversation to open the file, right?

Well don't click that link. Go to the folder that it's located in (My Received Files) and open it from there. It doesn't delete it that way.

Also, if you do click the link by accident and the pop up come up, don't click on Close or any of the buttons. Go to My Received Files (Notice it hasn't been deleted yet..) and copy and paste the file, so when you close the Warning box, it deletes the file, but you have a copy of it, so it doesn't delete that.

Hope you understood that :)

are you sure in WLM there is an option in it to " Automatically reject blah blah files "  go into Options an File transfer an see if that box is ticked

Automatically Reject File transfers For Unsafe File Types See if thats ticked

I know, but it's really annoying because that folder is way in my music folder way on my other hard drive:( I also don't want to make a shortcut because it'll clutter my desktop.

That will be really useful. Never thought of that. Thanks.
Does anyone have a permanent, lazy proof, fix?

There's the "Automatically reject file transfers for known unsafe file types", but that immediatly cancels the transfer before you start downloading it, unlike what Lou is getting.

Hope so. I think it's to do with Service Pack 2...

That can't be removed. Service Pack 2 was auto installed with the windows Service Pack 2 installation Package which stores use now.

I didn't mean remove it, just change it.

Here, try disabling this: Screenshot

Not sure what it does, but someone reccomended it when I was Googling.

Actually, thinking about it, probely not a good idea to disable securty center :P

Yes, I was just looking for that link.  That is how I've fixed it twice now (different computers).

By the way, that's from our own, great TReKiE! :)
