Possible issue (not sure) by YourNeibour on 06-14-2006 at 02:36 AM

How do I know if I burned an ISO properly with no errors?  I know with nero it sais burned successfully but that just means that it burned to the DVD properly  Is there to find out if data is corrupt without going through and installing the ISO?

Why I ask, I burned an ISO the first time and the ISO crashed then I burned it a second time but the icon in MY COMPUTER changed. from the little music icon (first burn) to the little application icon (second burn attempt).  Does that mean anything?  This actually pertains to Windows Vista Beta 2.  Sorry I know there are a few threads like this already but thought my question was unique.  Keep in mind I don't know anything about checkum's.  Oh and yes I burned it at the lowest speed possible.

Also when I tried to run it as bootable it froze.  Now currently I am using windows XP and it's installed for some reason on drive G: should that matter?  Would it be better if I tried reinstalling xp from scratch to make sure it installs on C: drive?  this is very very weird.

Thanks for reading my mini novel here.

I don't know why but still can't install vista.  Freezes at startup (the dvd) Would it matter if xp was installed on G: drive?  Or doesn't matter one way or another?

Hmm... i really think your install is fuxed.... perhaps some server hippcup and it got corrupted...

so it really shouldn't matter what drive my current windows is on?  I've downloaded vista twice.

When you download anything like that, use a program to calculate and verify the MD5 hash is correct. If it isn't, then the download has become corrrupted.

You can get Nero to verify the data on the disc has been burned correctly, but I only know of doing this at the end of the burn itself, as part of the whole operation.

And really you should have just expanded the original thread with your post here ;)

Edit: I guess a mod did just that :S
Also, where have half the posts gone? This thread's a bit of a mess now.

Don't write it on a dvd-rw

You must burn it on quality speed dvd-discs. Had the same problem now it's solved that way
