Brilliant script I would say. (: However, there's one particular problem. Whenever I open a conversation with another contact, I will also receive the notification even though he didn't open the conversation window.

what about the close window notification? (i.e. contact XXX has left the conversation) is it included in it?
if it is, then i shall upgrade to msn live and Messenger Plus live. if not, no choice, i shall stick to msn 7.5, Messenger Plus 3.63.148 and stuff plug ng. i rather have the open and close window nofication to the offline message and the shared folder functionalities.

Just noticed something ironic with the updated script. I added myself, and the notification showed that I've opened a conversation with myself. Everyone knows that if one adds oneself on the contact list, it'll be directed to the send e-mail page on the browser when double clicked, isn't it?

yep the script was a joke
It shows a alert whenever a window is created, so basically everytime a new window pops up- whether you launch it or your contact does by speaking to you- a popup is shown.
and linx05 told me to add a random popup every one in a while so i did that as well
we decided not to do a status check because as said above, we wanted to add the idea that the contact may have blocked you or is appearing offline

I'm not going to argue this, it's been said before and if you don't want to understand then there is nothing I can do about it.
It's been stated before that the window notification is a bad name and that it is a session notifier. The commands for session open and close are in the protocol. Ppl want a session notifier.
And no, we are not fanboys. We just want a feature. There is nothing obsesive devoted about asking for something we once had. There is no stereotype.
Anti-won on this board however spend time making fun of ppl and undermine every topic on it. It's always the same. "unreliable, unreliable, ..." This is a stereotype.
It now even comes to the point that you're deliberatly give false information to ppl that don't know better. You're a real hero.
It would be so easy to make a session notification and educate ppl on the subject. Cookie is laughing with this? Wait till everyone comes to ask why their WON plugin won't work. The fun will be over after a few topics.
Edit: unless msn protocol makes random invites for sessions. Tell me, does msn make random invites to join a switchboard? Dare to tell me wrong.

No developper here apparently wants to create such an open window notifier or even an open session notifier as all developpers here know it will be misinterpreted anyways, and the whole misconception starts over again, just as a couple of years ago.
If you still want it, I'd suggest to make it yourself....

1) People think they know something about something, while in fact they don't know a thing. So how are they even going to 'know' what a false notification is or what a good one is? Because they say they can? Sorry, I don't believe this for one bit.
2) Even after posting big threads, warnings, explanations on several forums (thus I'm not only talking about the Plus! forums, but about every messenger related forum in existance) many people still believe in such open window notifiers.
3) People will too often post "wow thanks, works perfectly" while they didn't tested it at all (happens in A LOT of other threads too btw, but it's hard to proof of course).

The biggest problem for ppl is the name. It was called a windows open notifier and no mather what you tell ppl. At the end of the day (s)he opens preferences and sees WON on it. There will always be dummies. I think it's wrong to remove such a wanted feature and it could be dealt with in another way.
My biggest problem with the info given about WON is that everyone sais it's random. It is not. There are reasons why it gets triggerd. Multiple reasons.

Creating a packetsniffer is not easy. Not even for a real coder. Biggest problem is that you have to use other ppl's huge sdk's only to filter out a port and value. Unless you create it yourself from scratch but I ain't even going there.
It would be so much easier if one of the devs made it because they already know what and where.
I am looking at it tho. Problem is that I'm an engineer and not a programmer. I can get my stuff but getting it in a compact program is a real challenge.

Fact is: this notifies you when a window is opened.
Therefor it has every right in being called "open windows notification".

I read at several forums (here & stuffplug) that windows open notifier is not reliable.. ok I got it but the main question is do we need a a reliable WON?

a friend is going to send you a message so he opens a window
--- there comes the WON : xxx has opened a conversation
then after a few seconds later your friend says "hello"
when we are going to get the message a few seconds later, do we really need to get notified ? what's the point?
WON gave us "not reliable" notifications when somebody looked to our contact card etc. Did anybody thought that this is what people actually wants? I don't care about getting a notification about somebody is going to send me a message a few seconds later , I wonder who is checking my contact card, my space, my display picture, my personal message etc... Actually what all these people want is what the developers call "not reliable" notifications.
Here is an idea let's change the name from "Open Window Notification" to "Whose checking you out" and make everyone happy.

it does not work!
call it a "Fake open window notifier" and twits will still download it. i say, dont respond to any more posts requesting this option. let them eagerly await a response and end up starting another thread titled "forum broken?"... the feature is GONE/Unreliable and annoying, as posted and edited out before, add me to msn and open my window as many bloody times as u want, or in turn ill open yours and send a message saying i opened it.

One problem is with the introduction of windows live messenger, you can view display pictures in the conversation window. So when you were to come online you could possibly get a toast for every contact on your list saying they have opened a conversation with you.

OMFG is it that hard for someone to just frickin convert the msn 7.5 script to WML, jesus christ even if people argue it isnt reliable just do it to shut em up, it can't take too long i bet.

HAHA talk a bout n00b, ya cant even refer back to page 1, its been done MATE! as best as one could work, oh and i must say if i wanted to know when i open a conversation with myself or other wise its an awesome script, it tells me when i opened a convo with some one
ne whom i hated the whole notify on convo open, so ghey and just makes u look like a tard when someone open it and ur like "haha u opened my window" and they be like "yer and...... go fuck ya self cont, watch me close it now!"

1. i am stupide not to read the last page entirly before downloading
2. it is not working right at all, thanks to the developers, nice idea but for this one doesnt work, too bad, as i said, thanks anyway!
3. how do i get it off?
4. a notifier is important so you can see when your friends open a conversation just to see your picture! so back to 7.5?

It doesnt work in 7.5
This is my suggestion: Let a thread that explains why exactly Open Window Notification scripts cant be made and pin it. And any thread made asking for that gets closed and redirected to that pinned thread. Period. End of story.

It doesn't work reliably, as in there are false postives. I agree with them in that, but if people want to make it let them, no matter how futile it may be. Although it can't be done simply in the scripting engine.

Go to your Plus! preferences and remove the script. Simple as that....
Plus! > Preferences > General > Scripts > select the "Open Window Notifier" script > Remove

It is not only unreliable, it is practically random. This hasn't worked since quite a while ago, and because it's a breach of privacy in a way, I seriously doubt it will ever work again

dude I dont know if it's just me, and I dont wanna go through 2938402830984 pages of posts, but this script is still buggy as hell... what's with the notification popping up so randomly... it even said my other email msn that I have on my contact list (which isn't even online at the time) has "opened conversation" with me....
and also if i open someone elses convo window, it says that person also has opened it with me...
