[To be released] /insult script by pollolibredegrasa on 07-03-2006 at 11:53 PM

Hi all :)

I saw a couple of threads requesting this, and being a fan of both the Monkey Island games and Messenger Plus!, I couldn't resist trying to make a script to recreate the /insult easter egg from previous MsgPlus! versions.

Anyway, as it is now, typing /insult in a chat window will initiate a word duel with that contact, by sending them a random insult.

When an insult is recieved, a screen will pop up showing the insult with a list of 4 possible responses. Selecting the correct response will send the response, along with a new randomly selected insult to your contact.

If the user clicks on "I'm a coward!", the duel is automatically ended. Running out of time and selecting the wrong answer will also end the duel.

But finally, The script is "backwards compatible" with earlier versions of MsgPlus! - meaning you can use the script to duel with contacts using older MsgPlus! versions! Contacts using MsgPlus! Live will also need the script installed in order to be able to duel.

Being my first real script (as I'm new to Jscript), the code is very untidy and there are still bugs to sort out, so it wont be released for at least a couple of days while I find time to get that sorted. :)

As for Msg Plus! Live, im assuming the script will be needed to duel with someone correct?

RE: [To be released] /insult script by pollolibredegrasa on 07-03-2006 at 11:58 PM

Yes, if the contact has MsgPlus! Live, they will also need the script. (Maybe should have made that more clear in my original post :P *updates*)

Cough cough....
Have you stopped working on this script? :(

RE: [To be released] /insult script by Jimbo on 10-15-2006 at 05:23 PM

script sounds good, are we going to see a release soon?

RE: [To be released] /insult script by pollolibredegrasa on 10-15-2006 at 05:53 PM

I haven't forgotten about this script, but in all honestly major personal  issues IRL pretty much stopped me being able to work on this.

As it is now, it's in a working state, but the code still seriously needs a tidy up as well as a bit more testing.

I've started work on it again, but there are still personal issues so I can't promise a release date.

Here's a screenshot of how it looks now:

And the MP3! Version for comparison:

Awsome, Can't Wait For this :refuck:

Cool, i can't wait. Good work :)

RE: [To be released] /insult script by NanaFreak on 10-15-2006 at 08:43 PM

that looks like a cool script.

one thing for the MP!L version you might want to put this into the window

code:
<WindowTmpl><Corners><RoundSize>1</RoundSize></Corners><Borders>
<Color><Alpha>255</Alpha></Color></Borders></WindowTmpl>

so that it looks more like the MP! 3.xx version
RE: [To be released] /insult script by dj jack on 10-16-2006 at 12:40 PM

If you want I could translate the script in Italian...Because I'm Italian and I'm a greeeeeeeeeaat fan of the Monkey Island series.....

EDIT: I've just finished the italian translation of plus! 3 dll containing the insult data if someone is interested send me a pm...

RE: [To be released] /insult script by prashker on 11-29-2006 at 02:02 AM

*Cough

Any updates :p?

(Will you enter into Scripting Competition?)

RE: [To be released] /insult script by Supersonicdarky on 11-29-2006 at 04:35 AM

cuz if you arent, i'm making a simpler version of the script (a)

and i thought of this before sam linked me here

RE: [To be released] /insult script by pollolibredegrasa on 11-29-2006 at 12:03 PM

Sorry about the lack of updates.. I don't have an excuse :P
Anyway, the script itself works now, but at the moment me and a couple of people are just testing it to make sure there aren't any bugs.

And yeah, I might enter into the competition :P

how can you make this simpler? There is only 1 way: It either is the /insult which is compatible with Plus!3, and behaves exactly like the old easteregg, other it isn't an /insult simulating thing...

RE: [To be released] /insult script by Rolando on 12-05-2006 at 01:05 AM

I'm looking forward to this script 8-).

I will translate it to spanish if you want.

For those who want to translate this. Please don't....

The lines are directly taken from the game Monkey Island. They are not simply made up in one day by Patchou or whatever...

The Monkey Island game is a game which uses jokes within sentences and words, word jokes, grammar jokes, twisted sayings, etc. They are as good as impossible to decently translate.

The whole point of the game (and I mean Monkey Island, not this /insult easter egg) is fighting with words instead of swords (and there is your first word joke already!). With all due respect, but translation something like that, which the creators took a very long time in making, is raping the whole meaning of it.

So if you want a translation, I suggest to fatfreechicken to look up the official translations of Monkey Island for this and don't use any other resource.

Such things like this are not meant to be translated, let alone by a non-professional (no offense).
RE: [To be released] /insult script by dj jack on 12-05-2006 at 09:57 PM

Guy, I've played monkey island about 20 times or more...it was the first program i used on a computer, about in 1995...when i was five years old!!
i know what those insults are...and i've already translated the old msg plus 3 /insult by modifying the dll using the originally translated italian insults...i know what to do! :D

I'm curious, have you actually properly tested using the easter egg after doing this, as I cannot get plus to recognise "alternative" text so to speak... Whenever I send an insult with different text to the original insult in Plus! 3, it does not get recognised.

Anyway, as the script stands, translation of the insults will not be possible.

RE: [To be released] /insult script by dj jack on 12-05-2006 at 10:33 PM

it doesn't get recognised in plus 3 simply because plus3 it makes a mere comparation between the insult you send him and that in his dll where all the insult texts are stored...using resource hacker to see the dll i discovered that the id number of an insult is the reply's id number minus 10...so it simply checks the answer/insult you send and compares it...
i've tested it and it worked, but the texts in my dll and my friend's dll were the same 'cause i sent him the modified dll...the 2 dlls must be identical...or the insults won't of course be recognised...sorry for the bad english.. ;)

And therein lies the problem. If the insults were translated, the original Plus! 3 DLL's would have to be modified also to retain backwards compatibility (which I'd assume is probably against the EULA ;)).

Anyway, I hope to release this soon, as my testers and I have been hard at work ironing out little bugs, and I feel it is almost ready for release (and about time too, I started this thing months ago :P). Oh and there's the matter of the scripting contest (which would be nice to win, but i'd be more than happy with just a t-shirt :P)
RE: [To be released] /insult script by dj jack on 12-06-2006 at 01:10 PM

A tshirt with "you found melee island treasure" written on it... :D well, yes it's surely against the EULA....well luckily i know english so i can use the script in english too!
