And try and use a bit of common sense ;)... What would the point of invisible mode be, if people could see you were online anyways? :p

but not like "appear offline"... u know how people are actually online but somehow they look as if they're offline and can still talk to u, thats what i meant by invisible mode. Is it possible to see if they're online?

"Appear Online" in WLM does allow you to chat to contacts (can't remember if this is the case for MSNM7/7.5).

Some patches and add-ons allow you to talk to blocked contacts, as well.

But there's no way to detect this.

Some clarifications:

1. Users who are still using MSN Messenger 7 or below cannot chat to contacts while appearing offline.

You cannot see they're online, but you might guess whether they are online or aren't. If they initiate a conversation or you are having a conversation with them while they look offline, that means they are actually online.

As Leo said, it's not possible that detect that, that's why it's called "invisible."
If you manage to see them online, that would defeat the purpose of being invisible.

Hope this will clear some things up :)

1. Invisible mode is called Appearing Offline in the Microsoft world.

2. Dunno why, but 7.5 users can chat with 8.0 Appearing Offliners. It worked for me when I beta tested 8.0.

An example of how you cant see if some is Invisble/ Appearing Offline:

In cartoons (and Harry Potter), when an invisble character picks up an object, usually the object does not go invisible. In the WLM case, the character is you and the object is your message.

it's because in 8.0 offline users can recieve messages.
in fact, two wlm users can have a conversation whilst both appearing offline.

What I meant was that 7.5 shouldn't be able to talk to people that are offline (which includes Appearing Offline) as the feature is not available.

It's to do with the Session opening and closing. If you left it for too long without replying, they would lose the ability to talk to you. They didn't have the ability to message someone who was really offline though.
