Well you know the title of Windows live messenger on the top of the contact list, well is there any way to rename it so it says what you want?
I tried searching but i cudn't find anything so i posted a new thread

I believe the addon MessengerDiscovery Live, can do this now..
messpatch can remove the Name, Logo or Both.

as for what a script can do... i dont think so, you would prob have to modify messengers files, & thats illegal

No you can't change that with a script. It's a image. You can do this with API Hooking.

Yes there is a way there was a tutorial how to do this for MSN Messenger but can't find it now, you'll need ResHacker [ http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ ] just ask a skinner or a patcher on how to do it.

ResHacker... that wouldn't be anything to do with illegal HACKING would it? i respect my privacy....

You shall export a resource with the type 4000 (dunno which one) and then edit it and replace it back.

MsgPlus! isn't illegal... It doesn't do any patches to messenger or any of it's DLL's.

I'm not sure if editing msgres.dll is illegal though.

I didn't meant MsgPlus!'s illegal.

But MsgPlus! does fool Messenger to load another UIFILE, it's the resoucre you change when you want to add buttons etc.
It is like ResourceHacking

But it isn't illegal at all, and it is nothing like resource editing because it doesn't change the resource. Just use something like Messenger Discovery Live! It seems alot more stable now than from the public beta.

I know this may be a little of the subject but i have tried to use MDL! and it never seems to do anything to my wlm at all. So even if the answer was resilved in MDL! i wouldn't be able to use it

...anyway all that doesn't answer my question, is the ResHacking illegal or not?

Technically reshacking is against the EULA... However plenty of people do it.

MDL! wont do anything with messenger unless you set it to using the menus or the icon in the task bar.

wouldent this be just like skinning? couldent you find the image that it loads for that, and just edit it?

the title at the top is probably an image, and is probably replaceable. i tried to do the live -> dead thing in msglang.dll and it just died (always make a backup before reshacking).

yeh always make a back up on any file you customize i always do it so i dont have to re-install the wlm
