after popping in the win cd, pressing r and following wat it saysi'm in the console, trying to recover windows. I chose the windows folder, entered the admin password and then nothing happens. I don't know what command to type. Or do I recover some other way? RE: sysrestore recovery console by RaceProUK on 09-06-2006 at 08:33 PM
Depends on what you're trying to do. Basically, you have the good old DOS prompt. RE: sysrestore recovery console by YottabyteWizard on 09-06-2006 at 08:37 PM
This is the main one you should use is: chkdsk

quote: sorry for double post but here's the full story: the computer always had windows update on notify me, but dont automatically install the updates. Today it somehow changed and it instaled the wga notification. I tried to remove it by sys restore, didnt work. I went into safe mode and deleted all the files except the reg keys because it gave an error. I logged back in normally and instad of deleting the whole folder i deleted the keys one by one from there. I logged off to see if the wga thingy from the log on screen was removed, but instead of showing the xp login screen, it shows the win2k and before login box. I try to login both the main user and the administrator. As soon as it says logging in, it terminates and logs back out. (on both noramla and safe mode) So i decided to repair windows, but i forgot that on that machine it never finishes for some reason. I'm still stuck at 34 minutes left after 2 hours. I know that a sys restore would help but for that I need to log-in right? How do I do that? :/ I'd like to fix this soon RE: sysrestore recovery console by Ezra on 09-06-2006 at 10:27 PM
try this: RE: sysrestore recovery console by Zeh on 09-06-2006 at 10:48 PM It is well documented (by me that is, in various computers) that the windows recovery utility is b.s. I mean it only works when it wants. Sometimes you order it to recover and do everything right and although it appears recovering when the computer restarsts it hasn't recovered anything at all... So I don't know if that is the case, but if it is you can stop trying to use system restore because if that is happening it is because windows somehow damaged your restore files. Windows does that sometimes out of nothing... Good old microsoft... RE: RE: sysrestore recovery console by rav0 on 09-07-2006 at 08:12 AM
quote:To put it lightly; you're screwed . I've had the same problem before, only a clean install worked. It's related to some driver installation or other, and apparently if you find what the problem driver is, you can delete the file, and setup will continue as normal, but it's never worked for me. You could try some web searches. |
