Server going down. by Kenji on 09-10-2006 at 03:11 PM
I was just wondering, almost every day at around 4pm (GMT+1) the server goes down for about 10 mins
msgpluslive.net still works but msghelp.net doesnt.
RE: Server going down. by Voldemort on 09-10-2006 at 03:15 PM

Its at about 3PM GTM actually. At least for all the days i've seen it down .
Don't know why... Does someone mess with the server?
RE: Server going down. by absorbation on 09-10-2006 at 03:18 PM
Downtime is normal, server maintenance, or problems at the data center are usually the causes

It is probably maintenance then, they must be doing something to help improve the server
Now my server has gone down

there's no maintenance that they need to be doing every morning for 10 minutes ¬¬

Automatic restart? There must be so form of trouble or updates going on for all this to happen at the same time
RE: Server going down. by minipatchou on 09-10-2006 at 05:47 PM

We need more info from all of you who are having problems as I cant really test this as it falls right in my commute to work.
Please provide some ping/traceroute results as it's definitily a network problem as the server logs dont seem to indiciate problems with the server or the daemons.
RE: Server going down. by markee on 09-11-2006 at 07:11 AM
This happens for me too. I only pinged the server once and it was fine with the pinging (about 300ms if I remember right). It anoys me but I can deal with the couple of minutes of nothing (I usually annoy Dazmatic and complain the sever is down )
RE: Server going down. by WDZ on 09-11-2006 at 02:17 PM
When is this supposed to happen? In 45 minutes or so?
* WDZ wants to see it

I bet u it wont occur whilst WDZ is watching :\ ive only seen it once my self
RE: Server going down. by markee on 09-11-2006 at 02:42 PM
Doesn't look lik it is going to happen today, it usually is out about now if it does. I can look up my chat logs if you wish and give you the dates I have seen and rough times of when I couldn't access the site if you wanted (might take me a bit but I'd do it for you WDZ )

Haha, i usually do the same, or he does it to me. =p
But it does happpen to me too and it is usually at the same time for about 10 mins. :/
RE: Server going down. by surfichris on 09-11-2006 at 11:52 PM
There was no downtime related to the server or the connection it was on.
Any downtime you experience has been from one of the upstream providers between you and the server.

Is it coincidence then that the only times that it happens to me (here in Brisbane, Australia) is the only time that it affects Daz (somewhere in England)? It just seems a little too farfetched for me but I guess yo guys know a bit more about it then me.
We experienced this at least on 2 occassions (just looking back in my chat logs) and that was at 15:45 Monday 4th September GMT and 15:38 Saturday 26th August GMT. These times will be after whe it went down because this is the time recorded in the chat logs an I waited a bit before talking to Dazmatic.
RE: Server going down. by haydos on 09-12-2006 at 03:01 PM
Well it just happened then... I managed to ping it with no problems. It was pretty much 4pm GMT on the dot.

just happened for me too, in Canada. I'd provide a tracert and ping, if the ports weren't blocked
RE: Server going down. by YottabyteWizard on 09-12-2006 at 03:28 PM
Yeah, happened to me.. I ran tracert and ping, everything succesfull, but i didnt save the results
RE: Server going down. by haydos on 09-12-2006 at 03:29 PM
I just got it for a second time too. Ping results were the same as above although this time figures were hovering around the 3000ms mark.

RE: Server going down. by ForestPlus! on 09-12-2006 at 04:47 PM
Well, i've noticed it as well, but there isn't an obvious reason why.. i wonder what on earth could be causing it...
RE: Server going down. by WDZ on 09-12-2006 at 04:51 PM
I missed it today... was busy messing with MyBB 1.2...
RE: Server going down. by absorbation on 09-12-2006 at 06:18 PM
Confirmed, happened for the third day in a row now
RE: Server going down. by surfichris on 09-13-2006 at 12:19 AM
Ping results are essentially useless as they don't say where the problem lies or give a good indication of what your ping reply time should be. You need to post complete trace routes (as was done in one case)
RE: Server going down. by emit on 09-13-2006 at 08:51 AM
The server can go down on me any day.
if u gno wat i mean and i think u do am i rite???
Blame abovenet, their routes have been shitty the last week.
RE: Server going down. by Felu on 10-07-2006 at 03:19 PM

Ok, At this point, Tracert's aren't going to help.
If we see it go down, we'll look into it, otherwise there just is not much we can do.

always happens at the same time, around 3-4PM GMT but it doesnt happen every day.
RE: Server going down. by wj on 10-30-2006 at 06:28 PM
Problem being, I think I'm usually the only one on even near the time and it's right during my morning commute to work.
RE: Server going down. by emit on 10-30-2006 at 07:19 PM
It didn't feel like a network/routing issue, felt more like apache was having issues (or some such thing).
RE: Server going down. by wj on 10-30-2006 at 09:08 PM
I'm guessing something is running in the cron at that time (though I've checked and didnt find anything) that is just bogging down the server.

I'm going to close this thread, because we already know what's triggering the downtime, and Chris says he's going to work on it when he has time.
Any downtime around 15:30 to 16:00 GMT should be ignored.
