There are viewers that can display documents made by Microsoft Office; you can download them from http://www.microsoft.com/office/000/viewers.asp. However, for each program you seem to have to install a different viewer.

There are also third party viewers, which you can find by using Google :)

OpenOffice.org

It displays and edits and creates them as well.

Each one of these, however, need to be ran seperately to read/edit the document. HOWEVER, they are installed as a package, and they blend well together (you can start a new document of any kind from any of the included programs and it automatically launches the program that is needed.)

It's not free, but http://www.myriadviewer.com/ looks just the ticket.

Although I would also recommend the free office viewers, if you install each one you only have to double click the file you want to open. :)

Not actually. It's all in one program, and it changes itself for different uses (word processing, spreadsheets, etc).
