incompatibility with IE 7 Final by samardjiev on 10-27-2006 at 12:51 AM

When click any link, mail icon or advertisement opens new window, not new tab. My settings in IE are to open new tab from other programs, but Live Messenger do not do this, any solution? Thanks!

Use Maxthon. I too have IE7 installed, but I use Maxthon for my all my browsing, it's much better.

no way :-)

Ironically, Firefox does the exact opposite! I selected open in a new window, and everything still opens in tabs.

I have no clue why no one has discovered that yet.

Because nobody want new windows when you have a tabbed browser? :p

EDIT: Just tested open in new window in FF 2.0 Final, and it works fine for me.

I used to want to use new windows because I would be able to switch windows with Alt+Tab, but I discovered more pros for tabbed  browsing.:)

That's right and it works in Maxthon too - in fact I have my "tabs" set up so they look very similar to the task-bar buttons.. it feels more natural. And IE 7 doesn't allow you to hide the search bar? I mean really, WTF? http://plamdi.com/portal.htm - my homepage looks like that (with only the forms) - why on earth would I need a search bar next to the url bar??!

Also a buggy. Nothing (I dont think) on WLM or Y!M opens on an existing window.
RE: incompatibility with IE 7 Final by Terry_K on 11-01-2006 at 05:29 AM

It's just the way Windows Live Messenger works. It is designed to specifically open a new Internet Explorer window no matter what your defaults are. As you probably remember, WLM 8 was released when IE6 was around (which didn't have tabs) so it didn't matter back then.

You can probably bypass this issue if you use StuffPlug but there is no version for 8.0 or 8.1 yet. Check out www.stuffplug.com and see if it has been released.

RE: incompatibility with IE 7 Final by RaceProUK on 11-01-2006 at 07:01 PM

What's more, WLM doesn't use any normal method to open the browser. It bypasses the usual ways like ShellExecute() (which opens in the default browser) and runs IE directly.

RE: incompatibility with IE 7 Final by vaccination on 11-01-2006 at 07:46 PM

If someone sends you a link in WLM in a conversation it will open the link in your default browser. I thought it was only the E-mail button which opened in IE no matter what.

yea...well looks like stuff plug isn;t going to be out any time soon so unless sumone comes up wit a script for opening e-mails in the default browser( sooo hoping for that to happen)...we all will have to live with the fact that it will direct to IE.....

Read this on Windows Live Messenger Newsgroup. Jonathan Kay explained (Source -» news:072DACB4-9EC3-4774-9324-FA49779C21BF@microsoft.com):

quote:
Messenger will only open the default browser for links in conversations.  For all other
functions Internet Explorer will be used and it will open a new window, regardless of your
IE7 tab settings.
