Translating Windows Live Messenger by rix on 10-31-2006 at 11:56 AM

Hey, guys!

I've translated MSN Messenger since it's 6.2 version. All of you who have translated this amount of text, surely know what am i talking about.

First of all, im looking for a tool that could make translating easier. Something like Choli's Messenger Plus! Translator would be great, because it has great structure and it can be easily used. Till now i've used Resource Hacker and it's surely not joy using it.

Secondly, is there any changelog for anything related to translated text, just like Messenger Plus! Live has? If im going to continue translating WLM with Resource Hacker, i'd really need it, as then i could just copy some sections from old translated file.

Sadly, due to the unstructured way language strings are stored in Messenger, it's not possible to use a program similar to Choli's (which depends on the text files having a specific structure).

Actually there is a structure in msgslang.dll, it just ain't simple. So, in theory it should be possible to build a program to translate msgslang.dll. Skills are needed, though.

Seems there aren't a lot of those who are willing to translate WLM, so i guess there isn't anybody who could make some tool for it. :(

Okay, i'll continue the old way then..

compare the exported dialog and text resources from the old one with the new one using any comparisson tool which can work with text files.
