I went round my friends house to fix up her computer. I got rid of about 70% of start-up programs and it ran like a bullet. RE: Can't connect to websites by Baggins on 12-23-2006 at 10:04 PM Try and check if something is screwing around with the ports and blocking/changing data. disable the internet security and if it is : norton internet security get a patch from the website to fix it. RE: RE: Can't connect to websites by Chris4 on 12-23-2006 at 10:33 PM
quote:Ahh.. I think they have that. That may just be the problem. I'll try and do that tomorrow, but if anyone else has and suggestions, that would be appreciated. RE: Can't connect to websites by DarkMe on 12-23-2006 at 10:38 PM Maybe some firewall is blocking IE7 from connecting to internet RE: Can't connect to websites by Chris4 on 12-23-2006 at 10:41 PM I did add 'Internet Explorer' to the Windows Firewall exception list, but didn't do anything. RE: Can't connect to websites by ddunk on 12-23-2006 at 10:45 PM What's the error you get with IE and FF? RE: Can't connect to websites by NiteMare on 12-23-2006 at 10:49 PM
try the reset button on the bottom of the internet options>>advanced window RE: Can't connect to websites by Kenji on 12-23-2006 at 10:51 PM
quote:Well, seeing that FF or IE will not work, it must be something else. Unless IE amazingly controls Firefox. RE: Can't connect to websites by NiteMare on 12-23-2006 at 10:55 PM
quote: you never know, you might be able to get one working RE: Can't connect to websites by ddunk on 12-23-2006 at 10:57 PM Or we could just wait until we have enough information to actually figure out what's wrong instead of posting shit. RE: Can't connect to websites by Voldemort on 12-23-2006 at 10:57 PM try in safe mode and with no security suite to see if some software is blocking it... quote:Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. FF: Server not found quote:Thanks, I'll try it. quote:Thanks, will do. RE: Can't connect to websites by lizard.boy on 12-23-2006 at 11:08 PM Just a question: when you installed Firefox, did you import settings from Internet Explorer? RE: Can't connect to websites by andrewdodd13 on 12-23-2006 at 11:13 PM
My money is on it being Norton. Restarting in safe mode is unlikely to work as networking drivers will be unavailable. RE: Can't connect to websites by Voldemort on 12-23-2006 at 11:46 PM
quote:safe mode with networking RE: RE: Can't connect to websites by andrewdodd13 on 12-23-2006 at 11:49 PM
quote:That of course depends if said friend is using a router or not. If they're using a USB/PCI ADSL modem then they're stuff - networking means Ethernet only. Of course, if they are using Ethernet and a router, that adds a whole other factor to the problem. RE: Can't connect to websites by Chris4 on 12-24-2006 at 12:00 AM
quote:No. I didn't because I just wanted to test the basic default Firefox; which I guess was the right thing to do, seeing as I wanted it nothing to do with IE, as that doesn't work. quote:Thanks, will do. quote:Yeah I guessed that quote:They are using a broadband modem, connected by ethernet. RE: Can't connect to websites by Voldemort on 12-24-2006 at 12:23 AM reset the router, disconnect it for a minute or so, i used to have that problem with mine.... RE: Can't connect to websites by Chris4 on 12-24-2006 at 12:44 AM
quote:There isn't a router, I don't think, but I tried disconnecting the modem already. The internet connection is fine. RE: RE: Can't connect to websites by andrewdodd13 on 12-24-2006 at 10:40 PM
quote:Networking will work in this case. Most USB ADSL modems supplied by ISPs these days don't work under Safe Mode because they also require USB drivers to be loaded. RE: Can't connect to websites by Chris4 on 12-25-2006 at 12:53 AM
Ok, well I tried the patch, didn't work. |
