Internet Stops Recieving "Packets" by Eddie on 01-15-2007 at 01:53 PM

Hello, occasionally my net dies and i cant open anything etc etc :( and the only thing i can come down to is, the "Recieved Packets" stops rising :( Is there a reason for this?

EDIT: Also should Sent or Recieved be higher :(

Ive done that, "Your Connection is Stable Here" :( Im on a Router, does that effect it?

INFO: D-Link Router (Crap i know), 3 People connected on it.

It most likely is your ISP's fault (no matter what they say), but you should perform some troubleshooting at home before you complain.

1) If your connection to the router is wireless, try to connect wired and see if it fixes the problem.  If any of the other computers are connected wired, you could also try to see if those computers experience the same connection drops.

2) Remove the router and connect a single computer directly to the modem long enough to establish whether the problem still occurs or appears to have gone away.

3) Your connection likely involves a cable or DSL modem.  A lot might be revealed by the state of the modem's status lights when the connection drops.  Make sure to check them and mention what happens when you call the ISP.

There is no rule for whether "Received" or "Sent" bytes should be higher.  It depends on what you are doing.  Most people will usually receive a lot more than they send, but something like a P2P file sharing client you are running could easily turn it the other way.

Well ive been running BitTorrent with big files a bit recently, will leave it a few days and see what happens (Y) but thanks Adeptus :)

the torrent might overwhelm your router because bittorrent makes a lot of connections, and most routers can't handle this. Try reducing the number of connections bittorrent can make to 100 on something.

If you have been downloading lots of large files your monthly bandwidth usage may be up. This can effect your connection and quality of service. Does your ISP enforce a monthly limit on your account?

More simply it could be downtime with your ISP, they may be carrying out tests or replacing wires :).
