Offline message problem by YottabyteWizard on 01-19-2007 at 08:20 AM

Well this one is difficult..... hope you can help me out.

The problem is that I sent a really big message to some contacts (3 to be exact) and now they're unable to log into their wlm/msn because of the offline message waiting, i searched the forums and nothing helped... I tried different PCs and still doesnt work on anyone. I found the key on windows regedit to change the offline message option to 'link on the main window' and still is freezing (msnmsgr.exe process at >80% CPU).

Troubleshooting done:
- Delete temporal IE data
- Tried on WLM 8.1, 8.0, 7.5.
- Went to meebo, and it works there.
- Changed show offline message when signin to show a link

Help?

EDIT: At least is it possible to delete or disable offline messages?

You can't cancel messages already sent. If anything it should be done at your contacts computer.

I think it will also be a good idea to enable CEIP, to help Microsoft solve these kinda problems. Read Why Microsoft Needs You and Why You Should Care.

You can also try to find help on The Windows Live Messenger Newsgroup. If nothing there you can post it..if anything it will bring this problem to their attention.

Edit: i already put a similar/connected issue (large amounts of text/emoticons freeze Messenger) on Connect a little while back but it won't hurt to bring it up on the public newsgroup aswell.

Must say I hate all these seeing messages even though you're offline.

Defeats the object of ONLINE chat, don't you think mate?

No it doesnt. But it does minimize the amount of shorter emails, and telephone calls.

Its like 'Tell <insert name> to ask her out for a date.' then someone replies OK, then when the person that said OK, they tell the person the same thing. I dont see anything wrong with that.
