Which cellphone to buy? by Rolando on 01-31-2007 at 11:38 PM

I'm going to buy a new cellphone..

Which do you guys recommend?

I was going to get the iPhone but they don't have it on T-Mobile and they said it had some major bugs.

So.. I've T-Mobile, I want it to have a camera (Most do anyways..), it shouldn't be too big..

That's about it. You can say which one you've too.

Just get one that does exactly what you need it to, as opposed to a phone which you'd buy for useless features. Don't spend too much money on something which is esentially only necessary for texting, phoning and perhaps checking your email every now and then.

One that makes calls and texts. I dont see why every one needs to have 5mp cameras and tons of memory on phones. Thats what cameras and MP3 Players are for.
</rant>

IMO, good phone is something like a nokia 1100.

I have a K750i, becase it was brought for me. Its good, but i still dont see why people want cameras and everything on them.

because whats the point of carrying an mp3 player, phone and camera around when it can all be fit into 1 gadget?

it saves space and makes life easier

Nokia 1600. I have it and its very good. Costs about 70€. Or go for a Sony Ericsson W300i. I got one a few days ago. It's a good phone too.

But its alot cheaper to get a camera, MP3 player and a phone. Its a waste of money IMO.

A standard phone is smaller than most phones with a camera.

MP3 players are tiny, and a camera is just abit smaller than the average phone.

good phone which includes a 2gb card = $320 cad (if not less (w/out contract))
2gb mp3 player (~$150) + 3mp camera (~$100) + regular phone (~$100) = ~$350

8-)...

RE: Which cellphone to buy? by Rolando on 01-31-2007 at 11:59 PM

I'm not going to use the camera in my phone as my actual camera, I just want it to have a camera in case I want to take pictures of somebody, like to show the picture when the person calls me.

I wont use the internet on the phone, so that's no big deal for me.

I want it to be small (not too small), have a camera, and text message. That's it.

Well, it needs to look good too, I guess.

It so happens I've been looking for a new phone too and spent some time doing that tonight.  Your priorities seem to be the same as mine, so I think there is a good chance you will like one of the three phones I am considering.

I should note that none of these phones are currently offered by T-Mobile US, which doesn't mean they won't work, but it means you will have to buy an unlocked phone for a full price online -- no "free with a two-year contract" deals.  You may also end up with no manufacturer's warranty, or have to send the phone overseas for warranty service.  On the bright side, you will be able to use it with either of the two US GSM carriers (T-Mobile and Cingular/AT&T) as well as inexpensive prepaid foreign carrier SIM cards, if you ever travel outside US.

That said, the three phones (in no particular order) I've so far identified as potentially interesting are:

Samsung E900
Samsung X820
LG K320

Either of the Samsung phones in US will cost you around $250, the LG about $180.  You can Google for the model name + "unlocked" to find vendors, or search for a vendor/price on Nextag.

I've also looked at the current T-Mobile US offerings -- if you want to get a phone the traditional American way, from the carrier, with a contract -- I didn't see anything there that fit our criteria really well.

Whatever you're going to buy, make sure it has a good battery life.

Or... you could get it from authorized dealers (not the T-Mobile store ones).

My friend has Samsung X820, and he got it free with a 1-year contract.
And I think he got it about 2 months ago, so if you are lucky, you can get a cash back (and/or rebate) as well.

I got my K800i for $200 4 months ago. The original price was $400, and because I chose a year contract, my dealer gave me $200 "'commission."
I could have gotten a bigger discount if I chose 2-year contract, but do not ever choose 2-year contract.
Yes, you'll get the phone cheaper, but 2 years are not short.

That doesn't prove anything, megapixels mean very little to how good the camera it, it's mostly down to the quality of the lens. A 1gb mp3 player is too small so if he wants to take pictures i'd say get a nokia 6230, they're great phones.

i bought 6288 3 days ago.memory is 512 mb.2mp camera.
377 € in Turkey :D But n73 better than 6288.

It's hot, I'd recommend it. Slightly annoying when you're using the directional buttons and you hit the touch-sensitive quit button with your thumb but you get used to it :P Really good camera, too.
