No MORE Messenger with scripts! by • MaNiC MoE • on 02-12-2007 at 09:34 PM
Hey, something very unusual happened to my messenger.
It was working very good, however, in all of a sudden... it slowed down and used up a very large portion of the RAM.
It was too slow... I used to write text in the chat windows and wait for about three secnds for it to appear!
Both, it's CPU and Memory Usage were high

So I signed out. The next time I signed in the same thing happen and it didn't respond and all of its windows froze!!
I kept on trying until it disabled all the scripts...
_________________________________________________________
Then I signed in (with the scripts disabled), it was doing O.K
Whenever I tried to activate any of the scripts, it freezes!
And I'm so dependent on the scripts for many things

Why is this?
What can I do?

activate the scripts one by one until you figure out which one is causing it, then remove it and maybe find an alternative

Like Supersonicdarky said, try enabling them again one by one to figure out which script exactly is causing it. Let us know when you found which one it is so we can contact the creator about it.

Hey people, here is a question related to the subject: Is it possible to scripts being incopatibles with each others???
I'm asking this because maybe is not ONE script the problem...
And... about the problem... maybe is the last script added???
RE: No MORE Messenger with scripts! by Patchou on 02-13-2007 at 03:40 AM
I guess that yes, it is possible, although it shouldn't happen for 99% of the scripts.
RE: No MORE Messenger with scripts! by • MaNiC MoE • on 02-13-2007 at 12:29 PM
Some scripts could be unliinked for other...
Such as the "Swiming PSM" and the "Count Down" for example.. They keep on changing your PSM every second till your PC explodes and that's what happened to me before...!
Well, I tried activating one by one but from the first oldest one it crashed again.
So I went into the registry and forced activating them (HKCU\Software\Patchou\Mes...\GlobalSettings\Scripts\...)
But the messenger is still crashing, even if I don't sign in or even get close to it, it shows me the "Sending Error Reoprt Dialog"
So I don't think it's got to do with the scripts
P.S : The last script I downloaded was "TypingInvisible" and a script I made which tells you a welcome message and a good-bye message when you sign in and out...
thx, I remember the last thing I did (before it crashed) was that I tried the "Extreme Backup" script. It added some files but diddn't really work...
Mayb it's da cause
RE: No MORE Messenger with scripts! by MicroWay on 02-13-2007 at 01:10 PM
Did you have Backup Extreme???
MAybe are the files that were created and you didn't erase then???
And if you tryed to reinstal Plus!??? Don't forget to "save" the scripts you created...
I sugest to PM the author of the script if no answer appears...

mayb Hey, I FOUND IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I first started to activate the scripts one by one, the first one I strated with was "Count Down"...
So I thought that it was in the messenger its self, not the scripts. Just now, I've tried the script under it and it didn't freeze or not respond.
So it's the "Count Down" script...
I had it on for about four days (from Saturday) to count dowb how much time is left for our Mid Year vacation to finish. I had the refreshment period (0.01 = 1 second)
So I think, it's what's behind the problem Nitemare

RE: No MORE Messenger with scripts! by NiteMare on 02-13-2007 at 09:35 PM
this is NOT a bug with my script, its simply a known limitation, i recommend setting the refreash rate to 5 MINUTES, rather then 0.01 minutes.
RE: No MORE Messenger with scripts! by CookieRevised on 02-13-2007 at 09:58 PM
Your script should not accept values like that since they A) updating PSM or nick wont work anyways for such short intervals, B) will get users in trouble (and they might blame Plus! etc), just like it was shown in this thread...
As such, it is a problem with your script which should be fixed nevertheless (and which I've notified you about long time ago also that such things could/would happen).
RE: No MORE Messenger with scripts! by Menthix on 02-13-2007 at 11:01 PM
I agree with Cookie. It is a problem with the script, because the protocol just can't handle PSM changes at an interval like that, even if the PC is fast enough to handle it. Scripts shouldn't change PSM at a rapid rate like that, and users shouldn't be able to configure it like that either.
I'll be watching closer for this on newly submitted scripts. NiteMare, could you submit an update that doesn't accept too small values? I'd say 15 seconds as an absolute minimum, and like you said 5 minutes would make a nice default value. Will also contact the creator of swimming PSM to ask the same.
If anyone finds other scripts in the Scripts DB that change Name or PSM too rapid by default or that don't have the time interval setting limited, please post in this topic, or PM me. In general, you can PM me on the forum or email me at to report broken scripts or scripts you believe shouldn't be in the DB.

O.K, so we're waiting for the new "Count Down" by Nitemare... with a limitation in the refreshment timing.
For anyone who faces a problem with a script and can't change it from his messenger, please do the following :
1. Open the "Run" in the start menu
2. Type "RegEdit" or "RegEdit.exe" or it's directory : "SYSTEMROOT\regedit.exe" (ALL THE SAME)
3. Choose HKEY_Current_User (data that does with the current user account ONLY)
4. Expand "Software" (includes all the softwares runed)
5. Chosse "Patchou"
6. Choose "Messenger Plus! Live"
7. Open the "GlobalSettings" key (the settings that will be applied to all users using MSN Messenger Plus! Live"
8. Goto the "Scripts" key (all the scripts you've imported)
(Or simpley go to HKCU\Software\Patchou\Messenfer Plus! Live\Global Settings\Scripts\...)
9. Look for the script's name you're facing trouble with and select it
10a. If you want to disable or enable it, choose it, two values will appear on the right hand side "(Deafult)" and "Enable", to enable it, double click "Enable" and change it's value data to 1, if you want to disable it change it to 0. (0 = Not On - 1 = On)
b. If you want to change its settings, there will be another key in it called "Settings", open it and edit it from there.
c. To remove the script, click the delete key on your keyboard or right click it and chose "Delete". Then go to : "%PROGRAMFILES\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts" and look for the scripts folder and delete it... (Shift + Delete = delete it and remove it from the recylce bin at once)
thx,
