Peer Mediation by Nagamasa on 02-20-2007 at 10:16 PM

If there is such thing at your school, how does your school do it?

EDIT: Doesn't need to be school, can be your workplace too.

Why I'm asking?

Well I'm the 'most respected' Peer Mediator (I think)(well that's because I've known the peer mediator coordinator since grade 3) at my school, and we just started this year, and we just had our first unofficial trial for recess, and it turns out to be horrible! My grade 5 partner and I were being bombarded with people asking stupid things that they know we cant deal with, and we couldn't keep the confidentiality because their friends keep coming around. But on the other hand,  my friends are tackling me from behind, and I cant even keep track of what they're talking about!!!

Help s'il vous plaît et merci!

EDIT: What's the difference between peer mediation and mediation?

Its basically the same thing, but its your schoolmates that you mediate, rather than some 40 year-old virgin.

Most schools in Australia are starting to make classes where the students do peer mediation. I think it is a good idea. It lets you forget everything that is going on for a while and it relieves stress.

At the beginning of this year actually, our principal (like a headmaster for you people from the UK) decided to hire "peer helpers" and clearly specified that they were not tutors, but were there to help with personal problems. It was to be a private program, and it sure seems to have stayed that way because that's the last we heard of it. I'm sure it's there, because our main office has application forms but besides that, nobody knows much about it. I'm not sure how it works, but if it's this private, I'm sure it works well.

We have Peer Mentors. I signed up to be one, only cause we get to get out of 5 hours a week of lessons. Plus at the meetings they give you loads of cake and cookies and stuff

Our peer mentoring system is so that we can help personal problems such as bullying, problems at home etc.

It does actually work because alot of kids have come to me with problems and I either deal with it in my way 8o| (a) Or pass it on to teachers who deal with it.

my sister was a peer mediator
she had a partner and at recess and lunchtimes the wore orange vests like the ones road workers wear and they walked around and tried to sort out stuff and look for people who were alone
